I think the opposition thought last season with Jurgen leaving in the summer. we would be vulnerable and thought they'd chance it, and play more open against us., Gave the likes of Diaz more space on the left and Salah on the right. Now teams are double banking us. Dropping their wide attackers just in front of their fullbacks. and playing ultra deep against us. It was always going to happen. Leeds followed a pattern of what most teams have done this season. I don't care if you're the greatest football team ever in history, You are going to struggle against low block teams, It works a lot of the time.
We miss someone like Suarez in games like these, he could turn in one body movement in the box and get a shot away.. all we do is play front on to the defenders.. At least Frimpong did something different last night and we need to use him more to get around the back. something different to our attacks.. Still not easy to get goals though.
One thing in your favour when teams do play deep. if you can at least stop goals going into your own net, if you keep possession well.
Ekitike still should have gone down and made the ref and VAR make a decision. I just don't think we ever get a penalty. Either they pull it back for the initial foul or just wave play on.

I think if he goes down after the defender swings his leg in between Ekitike legs and gets nowhere near the, then we get a pen.
And for once, former ref Gallagher thinks we should have had a pen.
I can't link videos on this but here is the text from sky'sports.
DERMOT SAYS: I watched this live and looked at it and thought, 'this is exactly why players go down,' because in my view, if Ekitike goes down, i think not only a penalty, but Bijol is sent off because he has grabbed him and grabbed him and grabbed him.
But he stops on his feet and gets a shot away and that makes it a much more difficult decision for the referee, but if he hits the ground, the whole landscape changes."

There is a bit more discussion in the video.
That's just incorrect. The grabbing and pulling starts outside the box. There is one argument as to why it could be a penalty but that's not it.
Your take is actually much closer. If you rule that it's 2 separate fouls then you can give a penalty for the second one because it happened inside the box. If Gallagher had said that I would have agreed with him. But his analysis is just as lazy as most fans.
And that's my point. How many refs are going to rule that it was 2 separate incidents?

I do think if he goes down after that "lunge" we get a pen. Gallagher even goes as far as to say a red card as well. I would have been happy with a pen. But it shows that refs won't act unless someone goes down.
We need to start being more ruthless and less nice.

And that's the bit we disagree on. For that to be a pen you have to assume the ref will call 2 separate fouls. I don't think they ever do that in game. Gallagher didn't even do it when under no pressure.
The most likely outcome is that VAR review it, the ref goes to the screen. He sees that the initial foul is outside the box and gives a free kick instead.
On a different "what-if" topic I felt that yesterday was set up perfectly for Isak. Leeds with the low block and Frimpong getting down the sides was crying out for a number 9. Either to play with Ekitike or to replace him when he went off.
Kev's been on here along time most if not all seem to like him and he's had his troubles. So hopefully all OK with him.
Unlike you, who's the biggest teleclapper to ever grace this forum, and there's been a few.

Hey glory hunter, you didn't answer my question. How much did this trip cost you? Don't forget to add it all up. Plane/boat to get across the Irish sea. Hotel, Uber, grub, tickets, etc. What is the final total?
Nice faux attack on me to show everyone you were at the game Just come out and say it in future. Nobody cares. Not one single person cares about the expense you went to. Well done. Top glory hunting.
