Said we wouldn't sign him, bit of a joke init really

Looks like we ain't even tried oh well.

20m is a steal for a proven CB and english- especially when we needed one, rivals have got stronger and we've somehow gone backwards, this club isn't running as well as it should last few years, I don't mean money-wise but everything else, transfers, youth setup, transfer staff etc.

There's more to it than that. Like 300K per week. But it has been discussed loads already.

I suppose, I wonder if players like to run contracts down now because normally they get a bigger pay-rise and sign on fee instead seems to be a bit of a trend.

yes I know guehi had 6 months, but maybe the transfer value reflects and makes up for the big wages etc.... what do you tihnk he's worth?

We'll be saving on wages soon when Salah and VVD go, end of a era... allison won't be long after either, the georgian lad seems a bit naff at coming out for crosses etc but he'll learn hopefully but that's a different subject

we're in a bit of a pickle if konate goes, and VVD nearing the end, we really need 4th for PSR/FFP reasons whatever you want to call it because we still need to spend a lot on this team in the near future, not sure how much wiggle room we'll have after the summer gone, and we may save on wages but it's not like we'll get a fee for the older players- and if robbo leaves that means we'll need a LB on top of everything else too.

Next few years will be crucial, we either go back to fighting for 4th every year or be challengers, sorry to be all negative but i'm a bit worried about the future at the moment, I know it's not all doom and gloom with Wirtz etc but still, I currently don't trust the transfer staff hope i'm wrong, FSG have some big decisions to make, and we need to start seeing some more forward planning because we've been far too slow at doing this, it's not good enough.

Wonder how much we're paying isak? wonder when/if hugo will ask to get a improved contract.

It's not just us looking a CB. Newcastle bid £60m for Guehi a while back. Why didn't they come back in for him this window? Or any other club since it seemed common knowledge he was available?

My best guess is that City were the only club willing to pay £20m now, plus a sign-on bonus to the player that other clubs would only have payed in the summer, plus £300K per week. And who knows whatever else. Nobody can compete with them on the spending front. We just have to move on. Plenty of other CBs available.

Yep that's exactly what I said in the summer, we put everything into guehi no other CB (not couting leoni) same with isak even though we eventually got him.

and if we can't compete with them money wise, we need to start unearthing some gems again, it's all good having 100m+ players but I rather we have a squad and good options, it's like we've learned nothing from the burnouts in previous years we've had.

How can the Jizzers afford Guehi with the 115 charges still hanging over them? (HaHaHaLOL)

Oh yeah, off the books innit

And gakpo is on close to 250k till 2030 lol ffs.
Once vvd and salah go gakpo will be up there with ekiteke and wirtz.

Also we're going to have to spent 50m, plus say, 150k pw for anyone near this level anyway.
The only way this colossal fuckup makes any sense is if Slot is definitely going and they want the next manager to decide.

I’m sorry if I’ve been a bit crazy about it all, it’s just really done my head in, no idea what any of that 3 were thinking with what they did just seems an almighty calamitous cock up of a window to me

Going from a few reports linked to Liverpool it seems we haven't made a move and had no intentions of this month meaning City had a free run at him.
I've not seen anything saying wages or the fee were the issue, they just decided against it from a market value perspective however if he were to come in on say 200k a week it immediately puts him in the clubs top earning players. Has that been a factor?

If he's a player they would have seen as being our main cb for the coming years I don't see the problem, maybe they're not looking at it like that
There's other reasons we have no clue about. We're all just going off money and his ability that we've seen.
It just seems odd that they wanted a deal done last summer and have now decided not to act when it would have cost them less money or not a great deal more when you factor in the 15m difference in fee.
Seen a few links with the German lad Schlotterbeck.
The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

Kaveh Solhekol‘s interview on Sky Sports was interesting.

He suggests that Liverpool weren’t chasing that much in the summer and that it was Crystal Palace staff that were chasing Liverpool for an update, he mentions that Palace staff arranged to meet with Liverpool after the charity shield to find out what was going on.

Seems like the club weren’t arsed if they signed him or not which probably explains why they didn’t get it done sooner in the summer or went in for him in this window.

If I was guessing, I'd speculate cituae gazumped us on wages at the end of the summer window and Guehi was happy enough for his LFC move to collapse knowing he'd get better money at Cituae.
LFC seemed to put it out there shortly after the summer window ended that they'd not be signing Guehi. Who knows really as just transfer bs speculation.

Isn't he going to be on 300k a week at City? We would never have offered him that as a new signing.

Could we not working the signingnon fee to get him in around 200k, this feels bad missing out on him
