  • The centre back thread

So who are we going to be trying to get for centre back in the summer, we need 2 probbaly 3. Any of these id be happy with but would imagine it wont be any of these
    Bastoni
    Botman
    Van de ven
    Romero
    Pau torres
    Collins

I am fully ready though to be completely disappointed and underwhelmed

Having moved on from Guehi we must have other targets lined up. No idea who they are mind.

Linked with the German lad Schlotterbeck at BvB. Also with Bastoni.
I like Murillo, he'd be a good buy. Not so sure about Bastoni, he's looked good but Italian defenders in the prem, can't think of many that have cut it.
Van De Ven to me looks good at everything except defending. Romero would be good, an absolute bastard of a player but the kind that you love if he's on your side. Like Suarez.

I agree with this as summed up with the martinelli incident , need some abrasive players who don’t take a backward step

I think you need to look at the slow tempo zero chance creation or cut and thrust as the source of our being too nice not our CBs

Virgil gets into players physically YouTube’s full of clips of opposition fans moaning about it

Van de Ven would be a good signing

              We need front foot defenders

Romero absolutely no Botman no Torres no Collins no

              Not seen Bastoni

At some point we will get back to pressing and counter pressing playing high and not dropping of and for that you need front foot aggressive defenders which Virgil and Konate both are were just not playing in a way that lets them do that this season because there’s no pressure on the ball

Konate has been shocking this season. Definitely needs replaced in the summer.

Virgil has been ok this season but we need to be thinking about a long term replacement now. I think his contract is up at the end of next season and I don't see any hope of us renewing. He's on £385,000 per week and will be 36 at the end of his contract.

Leoni was signed for £26m. That's decent money for a 19 year old so there must be hopes that he can fill one of the positions. Let's see how he comes back from injury. A full season is a long time to be out.

Bottom line, we need at least one top quality CB in the summer.

It's a real shame Leoni got so badly injured. We could really use the bsvk up and I suspect he would have gotten plenty of minutes this season.

STFU you know nothing, our CBs have suffered a bit this season, through a poor press and counter press ahead of them and trying to defend a player who has the run on them with no pressure on the ball and the player trying to play them in

Watch the goals from last season thread see how high they play 1v1 that's what top centre backs do, no CB can be excellent with runners and no pressure on the ball that's just the basics, so not surprisingly, beyond you

Schlotterbeck would be a really welcome addition.

But IF we were going to buy a CB SURELY we would have bought Guehi??

£20m for a proven England International who had already done his medical and agreed to join.

Utter madness. We are not going to sign anyone in this window apart from maybe a cheap loan cover for CB.
But I would doubt even that.

It’s a big worry. There must be a decent loan option…? Surely there is someone out there who may not offer a long term solution… ? It can work… We’re in dire danger of missing out on a top 4 finish. In many a season it would be hanging by a thread after this run.

If Slot isn't sacked very soon I'm afraid we will

The Yanks aren't getting just how precarious our position is and since his new way properly kicked in after the first 5 games Slot's point accumulation is lower than even Hodgsons
