  • Jeremy Jacquet

Personal terms have been agreed with Liverpool and the defender is set to join on a 5 and a half year contract until June 2031, with the option to extend for another 12 months. Medical done and he will join LFC in the summer.

Jacquet broke through into the Rennes first team at the tail end of last season and has played 18 of their 20 matches in Ligue 1 this campaign. The 20-year-old has made five appearances for France Under-21s, but is yet to earn a cap for the senior side.

We're definitely loading up on youth. A 20 year old centre back for the future to eventually play along with Leoni. If those two step up we could have the CB position locked down for the next 5-10 years.

Bit of a risk being so young, in the french league and not much experience, but hopefully we've got it right with this one, you don't pay that money for nothing... a position we really need also in the next year or 2.... so glad to get some business done early for next season and not leaving it all to be done in the summer.

Wide attacker next? (perfect if whoever could play on the left and right) CDM next or elsewhere? surely we'll get someone in attack, maybe do the same in the summer as Jacquet - VVD.... but salah- new attacker.

Also if konate goes, do we bring another CB in? or go with VVD jacquet Leoni Gomez?.... i really hope konate stays, gives Jacquet time to settle in get use to the team ,learn off VVD and ease him in and share games, I don't think personally he should go straight into the starting 11, but yeah- also konate being french will help.

Apparently he's got it all, strength, speed, a bit of a beast, very dominant in the air. Of course what he hasn't got is loads of experience, and in particular experience of the premier league. But I am very optimistic.

The ideal scenario for next season would be VvD, Konate, Leoni and Jacquet. That way we get to keep experience around and bed in the young players when they are ready. Unfortunately I think Konate is gone. If he was going to stay the contract would have been signed by now. Which would leave us short at CB. So I'd bring another one in.

Shame but you're probably right , maybe a more experienced CB I'd imagine... a lot more to do, but it's a start already 6 months early.

I have thought the same on Konate for a while. He looks like he is gone. However, Upamecano has just signed a new deal with bayern when it looked like he was leaving so there is always a chance.

If he does go, which I still believe he will, we will definitely need another cb. But this one should be experienced so the 2 younger lads have time to develop to the Premier league. We will have virgil then for next year to help them. He will go then so 1 of those 2 may need to be a starter the following season.

                Agree that -

                Van Dijk
                Konaté
                Jacquet
                Leoni

                - would be an ideal cluster of four to have. Hopefully we would maintain one of Gomez or Endo (both players can cover more than one position) for "emergencies" as well, just so we had that peace of mind, but the above would still be an excellent four provided Leoni can come back well after his injury. Loan out some of our other youth centre-backs and then see where we are a season later as we should bring an option or two through for 27/28 when Van Dijk may have decided to leave.

Any thoughts on bringing quansah back once virgil leaves, surprised he was let go as he looked ready made replacement for virgil.
Had a good season at leverkusen and he's part of 4th best defence in league.

Unlikely. Quansah had a tough time here last year and was evasive when asked about his relationship with Slot a few months ago. Maybe it's all water under the bridge but would he want to?

Jeremy Jacquet has described Liverpool as 'one of the greatest football institutions' and says he is 'honoured' to be joining the club.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Konate at somewhere like Chelsea. Any move to Real must be a long shot? Chelsea would pay him crazy money and he'd be a starter for them.

Yea it's a strange one. He has plenty of good years left at LFC should he choose to stay. Unless it's for somewhere like Real Madrid, why would he leave? Pointless going to Chelsea for example.

I am having Brain Fog on the details but I think we sold him for £35m and a release clause (for us) of £60m.

I think - if he shows enough in development and a good injury record - that our plan will be to pick him back up.

In such a circumstance I think we will think of it as paying net £25m for a 2-year loan at a decent club, which COULD prove to be really good value in the current (and presumably increasingly "worse") market for buying clubs.

If he doesn't show enough, we don't buy him, we still have whoever we have.

Konaté, Jacquet, Leoni, Quansah could potentially be an excellent rotation of four as we enter 27/28 and we would have ample future-proofing time if it pans out that way as Konaté would be the only one closer to 30.

I somewhat disagree, probably better pay, and in the future chelsea will be very scary

only a few signings away from challenging, and so much potential in that squad it's insane
