If we're going to pay players huge sums of money, those players need to be able to put in consistently good performances throughout the season. We shouldn't be paying big bucks to any player who is going to spend any kind of significant time on the bench, never mind an error prone player.

I get what you're saying, but I tend to affiliate proneness to error with sharpness.Originally posted by RedMagic View PostIf we're going to pay players huge sums of money, those players need to be able to put in consistently good performances throughout the season. Generally speaking, lads who have genuine competition are "on it" a lot more.
I'd personally keep him - "better the Devil you know" and all that, plus having a French centre-back could be invaluable for settling Jacquet in.
But if we agree to disagree on it that's grand - not like our opinions on the subject will make a shred of difference to the outcome.Your hobbies are rollerblading and you're also a bit of a rat-hound? Steel Wool

I have been thinking about it .... and frankly without a Jurgen Klopp level manager and with the current model... we are going to need something like this... And IF we are honest - the Premier league has never seen a player before or since at this level.
Too good for the league. Thank the good lord Arsenal never landed him - and he went to Barca...where despite the Messi narrative - many many Barcelona fans said it was Luis Suarez that was the first name on the team sheet.
How we didn't manage to win a title with this lad I just do not know.

If he'd started at Barca or moved there earlier in his career, I genuinely think he'd have been thought of as one of the best of all time. I'd personally put him ahead of Messi and Ronaldo.
Unfortunately for him (fortunately for us!) he spent his best years suffing around with Andy Carroll, Jon Flanagan and and Ally Cissokho.Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

He's easily in the top 5 attacking players of all time. Some people laugh if that's said but it's true. Maybe not a better goalscorer than Ronaldo but as in individual talent he's streets ahead.
It's his reputation that keeps him out of those top five conversations that people have and are not capable of separating the personality from the player. The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

Yes. He was probably our best ever player which is saying something and would be considered so had he stayed for longer. Unplayable for a time and never injured. A big what-if would be if we'd kept Torres and didn't buy Andy Carroll. Whether they could have played together who knows but imagine a defence having to face the two of them!Originally posted by Steveo View PostI have been thinking about it .... and frankly without a Jurgen Klopp level manager and with the current model... we are going to need something like this... Pound for pound the best player to ever pull on the famous Red shirt...
Insane levels of skill, and his free kicks were almost as good as penalties for certain goals...
Total edge of your seat maestro.

I do. I already really miss that era, it was an absolute golden time for us as fans. Every season was exciting and the football was always a pleasure to watch.Originally posted by justme View Post
