  • Absolutely true and why we landed him. His cannibalistic antics in Holland led to a quick sale to us and the same to Barca. Nobody suggesting he is the most loved just the pure quality - have never seen a better forward in my lifetime in any team anywhere.. Had he been well behaved he goes to a Barca years earlier and is likely in the hall of fame.. Trust me - defenders feared him more than Messi while he was at Barca.

Thankfully we replaced him more than adequately with Mario Ballotelli!!

      • "why always" us? You know Jurgen gets a tune out of him.

Sadly his antics were allowed to unravel under Brendan... and he had to go. Maybe he gets sold but not for free.

        • To be fair Klopp would have got something out of him. He was pretty brain-dead though.

          • Yep - would have got him scoring goals and in the shop window and a decent fee OR used as super sub... Shaqiri had the talent but word on the street is he was a handful in the dressing room. Klopp got what we needed from him.

            • Linked to Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim.

              Price shouldn't be enormous - £35m to £40m maybe.

Potentially very high ceiling though we could do with something a bit more ready-made as well.

                  • Steveo can you do a match day thread? (if Miller doesn't mind) We won last time, If we lose though. You're getting dragged over the hot coals.

Sorry mate - too busy and missed this - Think miller has done the honours... I've been lat out on a deadline today..

I honestly don't personally think it matters who makes the thread.. What maters is what the players do on the pitch.. Under the lights at Anfield and we can beat anyone - as we know.

                          • According to French radio station RMC, Konate is close to signing a four year contract extension.

Hopefully that's just a load of bollocks. If it's not, we could be in even bigger trouble than I first thought.

Konaté as one of our four centre-backs doesn't bother me to be honest.

Konaté starting almost every single game however is not something we want to see.

Agreed. We need new blood at the back. VVD can't play every game next season. I'd prefer to see Konate on the bench sometimes as well. He's improved as the season went on but he was a huge liability early in the season. We need to build for the future. Right now a lot of things are up in the air. My hope is that we get Alonso or similar quality in the summer and start to build a team again. This season and even last season have felt like a holding pattern. We have the bones of a decent team but we need a sense of purpose and plan. Under Slot we don't seem to have that. Last night it just seemed we didn't have the key players to step up and provide that quality when it was really needed. Szobo was the main one who did. Up front we just lack those game-changers. Salah can't do it anymore sadly.
