We don't. In just the same way that rival fans don't give Jürgen due credit for the times we missed out by a point.

Not enough people recognise Man City's cheating and certainly not to an extent that is even remotely appropriate. I mean, our own fan-base are, in large quarters, so "meh" about it that they'd rather see the chronic cheats prosper than Arsenal, all because Arsenal are Stoke 2.0 and their manager is a bit of a bellend.

Until those titles are stripped from them, I'll always want Man City to fail more than other clubs. I'd probably rather Man United won the League over Man City and that is seriously saying something.

It smacks of people not liking the "bantz" from rival fans in the workplace and something as innocuous as that shouldn't be enough to compromise core principles.

Just my stance on it, not trying to force it upon others - this is an area where I personally struggle to comprehend how anyone could root for an outfit that has had an enormous, negative impact on the sport at the detriment of many clubs purely out of not liking another club - I don't "get it" and that is a me issue - and that's fine.

I think most fans don't want to root for either team. If Man City win the title, nobody who isn't a Man City fan or a fan of a similar club will give Man City any credit for picking up, not actually legitimately winning the PL title.

If Arsenal win the title it means something as it would have been legitimately earned. That plus Arteta and their fans who will be unbearable would be reason enough for other fans not to want them to win it, but on top of that, if they were to miss out on the PL yet again it would be hilarious, especially the meltdown from their fans.

Principles in football vanished years ago. Money talks, BS walks. We all know it, and it's likely that will continue to be the case, meaning that Man City will almost certainly pick up more titles irrespective of how they do it, or how much we wish they wouldn't be allowed to do so. With that being the case we may as well engage in a bit of schadenfreude and have the occasional laugh at the expense of our long standing and legitimate rivals.

Precisely this and for all the reasons mentioned plus - London’s biggest club becomes a massive barrier to us landing the players we want. Pre Klopp - even Spurs regularly used to trump us. Chelsea still managed it often even with Jurgen in the hot seat.

Arsenal winning the title will likely see us waiting a long long time for any major success. Just my opinion

Whilst I disagree with Merson's assessment, you can see some logic in his thinking - if Man City are going to struggle against the worst side in the League, they might drop points somewhere else, opening a door for Arsenal.

I imagine some of it is "Copium" for him though rather than his real feeling on the matter.

Yes. It would be a sad day to see someone like Arsenal lift old big ears. To me it was a travesty when United won their third. Chelsea had enough chances to win that. Don't want any other English club (especially a non-oil club) approaching Liverpool's record.
