I did have this thought, very briefly the other day. I was thinking, maybe the injuries, Diogo's death and the rather large player turnover might have been the reason for the poor season.

Then I remembered the way he set the team up, week in week out. The non-defensive, defensive midfielders, the inability to build out from the back, the slow pace, the non-existent press even when pushing the 'defensive midfielders' so high. The gaps all over the park. The inibility to score goals from open play. Players playing out of position, Mac playing 90% of the season despite being utterly wank for more than year. Chiesa/Ngumoha/Joemez/Endo hardly getting a kick. The collapse of form from absolutely everyone other than Szoboszlai. And it got progressively worse, with absolutely zero shoots of recovery or glimpses of what might work better when we have different players.

If we / he goes into next season with the exact same set-up, just with new/fit players it's going to be exactly the same, if not worse.

He's not a bad manager, you don't win league titles in multiple countries if you're a fraud. But he needs a massive change of philosophy. All the best managers can adapt. Fergie, Pep, Jurgen they all changed their systems throuought their careers. If Slot can't adapt, and is steadfast with this 'system' then i'm oout.

Most managers have a set way of playing that they tend to stick to throughout their careers. Most successful managers either have a specific way of playing that they get their players to buy into, partially as a result of being round pegs in round holes, or they are a supreme motivator who can turn average players into good players, and good players into great players e.g. Klopp.

Slot is neither of those things, in fact he is the exact opposite. He has no clear defined way of playing, he tries to put square pegs in star shaped holes, and rather than being a great motivator, he is a vampire that is draining the life out of our players.

Slot is not going to turn our fortunes around. Anybody who isn't in denial, blind, or an idiot knows this. If we do somehow get off to a good start it's either going to be because a few of our best or most expensive signings start having a few good games, or just like the begining of the season just gone, we get lucky or manage to scrape together a few successive extremely unconvincing wins.

Slot will be sacked. It's just a case of when, not if. The longer he is kept on, the worse our issues will become, and the harder it will be to right the ship. This will be as a result of decent managers having already been snapped up by other clubs, top drawer players not seeing us as a first choice destination, and some of our better players either leaving because they want to go elsewhere, or because they are coming to the end of their careers with us.

The reality is despite jozza's comical and overblown attempts to paint Slot as winning multiple titles Tent Peg - who had a better record in the Eredivisie would have arguably done better had he been "coaching" Klopp's team last season.

He didn't have to instil a winning culture or build any tactical chemistry from scratch. He walked into a dressing room completely hardwired with Klopp’s elite mentality. The team essentially won that league on autopilot using the residual muscle memory of the previous nine years.

Putting his face next to Shankly, Paisley, and Dalglish before he'd even signed ANY of his own players or faced a single second of adversity looks worse with every passing week. It was a completely knee-jerk reaction that totally misunderstood why that team won in the first place

There is a lengthy list of things that need fixing.

The hope has to be that we fix two or three of them and that puts us on an improved track.

Now - realistically, I don't think Slot turns it around and I don't enjoy watching his brand of football this season. So anything I say that comes across as "positive" I absolutely must impress upon people that it's about me hoping things pick up for the club, rather than me fanboying for Slot, who I am at best apathetic about at this current time.

- Goals help, massively.
- Pace in transition helps, massively.
- 1-v-1 skills help, massively.
- Numbers help, massively.

How much better might - MIGHT - things look if we can pick things up in the attack?

We have gone from having Salah/Chiesa on the left, Darwin/Diogo in the middle and Diaz/Gakpo on the left. We had six - six. That is what we want - numbers and depth. Chiesa being counted at depth for last season is arguably laughable given how little Slot has used him but here we are.

The idea that we will be using Chiesa (not rated by Slot) with no Salah in 26/27, with Isak (injuries) and Ekitike (out until January) with Gakpo and Rio (talented, but just 17) is massively indicative of a lack of depth and there is a real lack of pace in there overall.

For me we need to get what we can in the forward positions (let's say Barcola and Diomande for talk's sake) and a "Shaqiri-type" to pad out numbers a bit (no way we find three TOP forwards on a budget) so we aren't short and then we can take it from there.

As defensively shite as we have been, the lack of goals and the lack of opportunities to make goals (lack of transitional pace, lack of creativity, forced into playing Wirtz off the left at times etc) happen as a result of what we're missing and the lack of depth has been extremely telling. Many managers rebuild squads by addressing the defence first, but our Jürgen sorted the attack and made us capable, then we were able to address the spine.

I'd happily see us looking at making damned sure we get some joy in the attack again to give lads (and the crowd) a lift in games and hopefully finish 3rd/4th next season and build from there.

No idea what our budget is, but I think we have some "bits and pieces" players we can sell (Koumas, McConnell, Endo, Bajcetic etc) to try and put towards a defensive midfielder and the rest of what we have should be able to go towards the attack. I'd even (short-term) sacrifice the purchase of a right-back that I'd be desperate for us to bring in if it ensured some forward line sparkle.

We haven't got enough players for the attack. Let's sort that and sort some of the rest later.

Forwards in, a dynamic midfielder to pair with, say, Szoboszlai if Wirtz is remaining in a 10 behind some attackers and ensuring the attack has genuine options from the bench on account of us investing in the attack could give us "something" - definitely not enough to win a League title, but might inject a bit of fun again, which would give squad and fans alike something of a lift.

Whether it's a Diomande, a Barcola or whoever, we need fans getting out of their seats again.
