Dominic Calvert-Lewin pounces on a Brighton error to score what could be a game winning injury time goal. If Bournemouth don't beat Man City tomorrow it 'should' mean we're going to qualify for next season's CL.

Leeds do indeed beat Brighton 1-0.

So by my calculations, even if we lose on the final weekend and Bournemouth finish above us,, IF Villa win their final, we'll get champions league by default?

No. The PL only gets a sixth spot in the CL if Villa win the EL but finish outside the top five, something they could no longer do once they embarrassed us the other day.

If Bournemout beat Man City they will be a point behind us going into the final day of the season. If they draw they can mathematically overtake us if there is a six goal swing on that final day. If Bournemouth lose to Man City we will definitely have qualified for next season's CL.

Nope, that's incorret. For 6th place to gain a CL spot Villa HAVE to finish 5th and win the Europa.

If we somehow beat Brentford last day, and Villa lose, but have already won the Europa, then 6th place will qualify for the CL.

If Newcastle keep their lead over West Ham, then a draw will do Spurs due to the gulf in goal difference between them and West Ham.

A pity. Seeing Spurs go down would have been great.

We're now a Man City win over Bournemouth from Champion's League football next season. If we start next season in the Champion's League and with a new Manager we can hopefully start to enjoy football again.

We're both correct as the PL would have got six spots if Villa finished outside the top four but won the EL.

West Ham get a goal back via a fantastic Castellanos goal.

                            Actually, this is incorrect.

Based on all previous seasons when this has happened, if the Europa League winner finishes within the top CL spots in their league (be it top 4 or 5, depending on the league), then that league doesn't automatically get an extra spot.

You only get an extra spot if the Europa League winner finishes outside the top CL spots - such as happened last season when Spuds won the Europa League but finished far outside the top places.
And even then they still have to get into the group phase proper in a pre-qualifying round of games.

Same would apply if a team won the Champions League itself but finished outside the qualifying places as we did in Istanbul.

It used to be an automatic qualification (as happened for us then) but somewhere along the way they made it that if you won one of those European trophies but finished outside your qualifying spots, you'd get in, but only through the pre-group qualifying matches.

So in present day scenario, the only way the Premier League could have gotten a 6th spot would have been had Villa finished outside the top 5 but then won the Europa League.
Following their victory over us last Friday, that isn't going to happen as the worst spot they can finish at is 5th place.

So only 5 teams will qualify for Champions League from the Premier League this season regardless of whether the Europa League winner is among them or not.

(5 qualified last season (instead of the apportioned 4) because the eventual EL winner finished outside the top 4.
Ironically, we have the Spuds to thank for if we do happen to qualify as 5th place finishers as they're winning the Europa League (along with playing the Mancs in the final) factored into giving the Premier league an extra spot for this season)

                              "..outside the top five."

And no, YOU are correct, and he wasn't.

The PL would have gotten 6 spots (ONLY) if Villa had finished outside the top five but won the EL.

Such as happened with Spurs last season (when the PL had 4 apportioned spots but eventually had 5 teams competing because the Spuds won the EL despite finishing 17th in the league)
