Don't want to start a new thread. Just watching MOTD. Is wayne Rooney the worst pundit they've ever had.? He doesn't give any opinions. He just parrots what he's asked. He was asked tonight about salah. He just mumbled some stuff and said yeah he's been very good. The insight.

I think like us all. I got a bit emotional seeing Salah and Robbo depart the pitch. But i think it's not that heartbreaking in the sense of what could be further down the line. They have both gone to the ends of the earth for this club.
I felt more upset when Suarez left. Just because he left in his prime
Salah will go down as the best inside right player to ever play for us..That's some praise considering the players we'be had down the ages
And Roberson was the best left back in the league for several seasons.. will take a monumental task to replace them,Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

You're right, both generational players. Just like Alison,Virgil,Trent, Mane, Firminho. You can't replace those players. Some will disagree but I'd add Hendo to them. Id kill for that solidity and leadership in midfield now.Originally posted by justme View PostI think like us all. I got a bit emotional seeing Salah and Robbo depart the pitch. We were lucky enough to have them all in one team but it's also cursory that a lot have left within a short few years and it makes the task to replace them nigh on impossible. The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

Trent aside, they are all a similar age. That team was always likely come to an end at roughly the same time.
Though I'm not sure replacing them in big chunks is the way to go...
We've been very good in the transfer market for number of years, I just don't think we've gone about succession planning very well at all.Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

Yep Mane what a player, Diaz was a decent player for us. But Mane was much better than him. But if we can find someone on the level of Diaz,we'd be happy. Rio looks a great prospect, But needs time and we can't rely on him for a full season,And Gakpo least said about him the better.
Strange thing, I actually rated him, until this season, he did well in his first season and the second. Utter tripe this time aroundCleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

Aye you're right, the integration of players to take their place in the squad has pretty much been an abject failure up to this point. The CB issue has been going on for years, Matip left two years ago and we've got nobody even close to how good he was.Originally posted by jozza800 View PostTrent aside, they are all a similar age. Diaz left who was a quality player on that left so we did get a good replacement for Mane although not as good.
It was an all time great team and it rarely if ever happens that you get seamless replacement but when you look at last season and the players brought in we would have expected so much more.
Wether a different manager changes that is something we'll have to wait to see.
Maybe it's not as far away as I think? We do have good quality in there. We just need a few real players to bring the level up again. The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

Wasn’t luck. Coincided with Jurgen Klopp and it’s highly doubtful any of Bobby - Trent or Mane get to World class levels without him.Originally posted by teesred View PostYou're right, both generational players. just a brief look at 3 from Liverpool and Dortmund highlights this point - they all went precisely nowhere once Jurgen wasn’t there.
Liverpool
Philippe Coutinho - Barcelona
Georginio Wijnaldum - PSG
Sadio Mané (Moved to Bayern Munich)
Dortmund
Mario Götze - Bayern
Shinji Kagawa - Manchester United
Nuri Şahin - Real

Re: Gakpo. Yeah I really thought he was going to kick on this season, I thought he was a good player last year and looked like he had another level in him. This season has shown he's just not up to it.Originally posted by justme View PostYep Mane what a player, Diaz was a decent player for us. But Mane was much better than him. Like Alex off YnwA reds says, a coward of a player at times yet gets 90 mins pretty much every game.
If he's in our starting 11 under Slot come August we are in bother from the off.The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

I know - and you’re right … I am just being anal and shouting out that wherever Klopp went players out performed all expectation. Hendo - became a great captain - was never that much of a player tbh - technically speaking but he became a leader under Klopp. These fellas - Salah included - Imo no way he gets close to those numbers but for Jurgen. The man just made them all the best versions of themselves and then got another 10% on top.
As with the so many of fans he built that inner belief…

I just can't see much happening under Slot as he seems to have misdiagnosed the problem at times. He's often said we played well when we didn't. He's undermined players and hasn't man-managed at all well. So the evidence suggests that will continue next season. It's hard to be optimistic right now.Originally posted by teesred View PostAye you're right, the integration of players to take their place in the squad has pretty much been an abject failure up to this point. Looking for positives, as you say a couple of key signings could take us up a notch. If we got in a strong winger on either side that would be a great start. A DM as we've said all season. That would free up Grav and Szob to play further forward which is their forte. Not sure where Wirtz fits.
The trouble is we've let problems pile up for a few seasons before Klopp left by not investing in the team. Then we've tried to solve a load of things at once. It hasn't worked so far and the injuries have exacerbated it.
Possible team next season:
Mamar/Alisson
Bradley/Frimpong Konate VVD Kerkez
New DM
Szob Grav
RW/Frimpong Ngumoha/Wirtz?

Thing is, go through that Liverpool team under Klopp, only Alisson and Virgil were world class when they arrived.
Robbo couldn’t even get past Moreno when he arrived, the likes of Gini and Henderson were ok but not exceptional and as for the front 3, all very good players but under Klopp they became the best in the world
Never mind individual players who we’ll never be able to replace it’s Klopp who we’ll never replace."I am the Normal One."

True. We know Klopp brought the x-factor. The very least Slot could bring next season would be a coherent plan of how we want to play to maximise the players we have. I would give him some leeway in that he's had to put up with a lot of disruption due to injury and massive squad changes which probably weren't down to him.Originally posted by miller0863 View PostThing is, go through that Liverpool team under Klopp, only Alisson and Virgil were world class when they arrived.

Post of the year… and from someone who clearly knows what they are talking about. The great Liverpool - the great monster Liverpool of old - restored by one man.
