    Supposed contentious Referee decisions…

Last week we had the contentious Skelly Red card discussion, personally I am in the same camp as Steve Nicol on that one, really cannot understand why Arsenal’s appeal was successful but hey ho nothing surprises me any more…

The Gakpo penalty yesterday is now being described as contentious, can someone explain to me why ?

Ffs when did being fair and balanced stop being relevant…. I understand why Bournemouth supporters may have felt aggrieved in the Stadium but the video evidence witnessed by VAR was clear and beyond doubt.

I can understand why the Bournemouth Manager felt somewhat aggrieved as apparently a similar incident against Bournemouth in a previous game this season was not given, but why oh why if you argued that it was a clear penalty for Bournemouth on that occasion, can you then use that mistake as a legitimate argument to deny the penalty for Liverpool… if you believed it was a penalty for Bournemouth then there is simply no argument here, as two wrongs do not make a right…

Finally, I have to say on another day Macca could have easily been sent off, so we got very lucky with that one, but tbf Macca only had eyes on the ball swung his leg and the Bournemouth player simply nicked the ball away… however what I did not notice on the replay was it looked like Macca caught the inside of the Bournemouth players left leg, but he went down holding his right leg and the trainer was attending to that leg rather than his left one, wtf is that about…

The only conclusion that makes sense is Macca didn't actually catch either leg and the player was just simulating contact, no one seemed to pick up on this, they just seemed more interested in creating the narrative that Macca should have got sent off, rather than examine the Bournemouth players clear act of simulation….

Hey ho rant over… still smiling from yesterday so all good…

It’s a different world now BPF. It’s all about click bait and provoking people to respond.

There was absolutely nothing contentious about the penalty yesterday, Gakpo was clean through and about to score, he’s not going to dive in that situation and the most telling part at the time was that the defender didn’t complain one bit when the penalty was awarded.

Now that’s onfield and in game time but then you go to VAR and see the clear contact.

So it is in no way a contentious decision but that doesn’t suit the agenda of either opposition fans or click bait producers and the general media looking for a story.

Slot handled it perfectly in his after match presser when the idiot asking the questions tried to get him going on it. He cleared it up perfectly even for the hard of thinking.

I guess so.. hey ho showing my age I guess, winning on merit is such an odd concept these days, rather than “ He who dares wins “ it’s more a case of “ He who cheats best, wins… “

    Sad but true…

I can see why it's a penalty but I think it's a harsh one also. There's no intent but obviously he does clip him
I think we'd be in the contentious camp if that's given against us.

I think the angle they kept showing doesn't help the narrative.

One of the angles (the one I have seen the most) looks like Gakpo tripping himself with his own foot, whereas another angle the clip is very obvious.

Disagree, it was a goal scoring opportunity, he was about to shoot one on one with the keeper.
The defender not complaining is a huge indicator also

I was shocked when the referee pointed to the spot but Gakpo's heels definitely got clipped when watching back.

I have to disagree about the Lewis Skelly red. It would have been a travesty had he been banned for 3 matches

Defo looks like he was clipped BUT nobody can actually see the contact.

However - it is one we would be going nuts over had it gone the other way.

Not sure if you agree but if I am honest. On the day - we were fortunate to take any points never-mind all 3. Slot alluded to it. Obviously he didn't go overboard but he referenced the margins involved between them scoring 3 and us only scoring 1.

I agree. I think it was one we got away with to a point. The stats aren't bad in relation to ourselves but had Bournemouth scored I think it would have been difficult for us to have won. They were all over us at one point.
A game that was similar to a lot this season especially early on, not pretty to watch but we got the result.
