    Liverpool starting 11 against PSG

    ______________Alisson______________
    Trent____Konate_____Virgil______Robbo
    _______GravenBerch___Macca____
    ___Szoboszlai_______________Jones
    Salah_______________________Diaz

I like the idea of 2 false number 10s. More solid in the midfield.. We can always go back to the traditional 4/3/3 in the home fixture.. I have chosen Diaz over Gakpo as Diaz seems to have hit some form of late.

PSG have had a great season so far... and yes they can blow hot and cold but when they're hot - it's like a furnace. So mobile and dynamic. A draw would be a great great result imo

This season has been an odd one tbf, whilst we haven’t exactly set the world alight with our performances, we have seemed to rise to every challenge whilst seemingly not breaking into much of a sweat…. on the odd occasion we have shown glimpses of full throttle football, 10 men against Fulham, against Chelsea, and when we have been on song, scoring goals for fun and despatching teams with ease, Spurs and West Ham in the league for example..

Given PSG are flying, it will be interesting to see if we can raise our game to another level and just despatch them like we did we Leverkusen and Real Madrid…

Hopefully we can, but agreed this is going to be a real test, if we can put together an impressive performance and send a real positive message across Europe with a convincing win, how good would that be ..🤔😎👊

One thing nobody can take away from Slot is the improved use of shorter quicker passing - more technical - high quality footy - the conservation of energy to manage players from relentlessly making lung busting runs - a theme of the Klopp era. Probably part of what led to multiple muscle related injury issues. It's a pragmatic approach and a different one to what is clearly a smaller group than he would wish for given the number of high profile games in a far tougher league than the Eredivisie.

The fact he won't use Elliott, Endo, Quansah or seemingly Chiesa hardly at all... highlight's the issue Slot sees in training and one cited all season by some of us posters here.

We can't afford injuries - we have had good fortune on that front thus far - how much of that is down to a tweak in our play or fate is anyones guess.

PSG are flying - it would be great to give them a bloody nose, but honestly, a draw would be superb... a win - while on the surface looking even better MIGHT just leave the faithful under the lights at L4 - far less motivated and vocal than otherwise were we needing a win.

I'll be surprised if it is anything else but this. Similar set up and tactics as against City?

Endo, you can can sort of understand Slot's reluctance to play him more often, as you say his technique isn't to the same standard as the other. Quansah is getting minutes as a 4th choice CB, and most 3rd/4th choice CBs are only playing in cups or if there are injuries to the two first choice CBs. First choice CBs are very rarely rotated.

However, Elliot and Chiesa ommisions are baffling. You would think Elliot would be suited to the quick link up play that Slot likes rather than the, as you say, lung busting running of Klopp's system. He's got quick feet, can pick a pass and is pretty good in tight.

Similarly with Chiesa. He's a technically tricky player. Certainly better touch and technique than all but Salah in our forward line. Understandable that he isn't going to be sitting Salah down anytime soon but i'm (as I sure a lot of us equally are) baffled at his limited game time.

But as you say, Slot sees them in training every day.

Elliot and Chiesa were barely used before the cup game but now they've been completely frozen out.
I wonder if that's a bit of pettiness on Slots part? Endo can be relied on for 20-25 minutes to keep it tight so why not bring on either of the other to give Salah a break? We were 2-0 up against Newcastle and completely in control so they could have got some time there.
I think they're both gone in the summer. Shane for Elliot, boyhood fan etc. It will hurt him to leave but his game time suggests he's not part of the long term plan.
The thing that's a bit concerning is that quite a few of the squad players seem surplus to requirements. If that's the case then we could be looking at quite a few personnel changes.
We obviously will be replacing Nunez and possibly Jota/ Diaz if rumours are believed.
Then if Endo,Elliot and Chiesa are shipped out they need replacing and that's before we even think about first team replacements at LB,CB and an additional midfielder for the first 11.

And doesn't account for replacing the Three Amigos...

Only one of them will need replacing for the short term but yeah in the long term definitely.
The CB addition you'd hope will be a long term replacement for Virgil.
