Arne Slot said this in his press conference.

Arne Slot said this in his press conference.

"It's good to have some new energy in and around the place with one or two new players, but it isn't really a necessity if you look at the quality we have and the quality of the season we have had."

I hope he's only joking as that is music to the ears of FSG.

Hopefully he's just being diplomatic and doesn't want to spook the squad players by saying yeah there's gonna be a lot of change in the summer. I haven't played a lot of guys as they just aren't good enough imo.

If he truly meant what he said he's blind to the reality. And if he's lying about the quality then he no good for us in the long term either. We need a manager who will call out poor investment by FSG the same as calling out poor officiating by PGMOL.

This is said in generalities and is by no means "aimed" at you - but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

We have a way of doing things, it frustrates some fans, but we will stick largely to our method, for better or worse - and it's largely quite effective.

All season we have listened to the likes of "FSG can't wait to offload Virg and Salah to save money" and lo-and-behold we're going to be committing the larger part of Ł800k-per-week on those two players.

Slot is not going to come out and say "we need players" because it will reduce morale amongst those who are staying and will double/triple the fees of our targets and strengthen the negotiating positions of clubs and agents who know we are in for their players.

    It'll all be fine.

Either he's playing clever mind games so as not to appear desperate in the market while we secretly work on some closed door deals for top top marquee signings or it's going to be a quiet window.

I'd say that based on previous evidence the latter is the more likely of those two scenarios to occur. Since FSG took over, almost all managers have completely toed the party line. The closest any of our FSG appointed managers has come to saying what they really thought or currently think about our transfer activities was Klopp who said (this isn't verbatim) "It's always good to get in some more players, but such things are not up to me".

...Everyone wishes they had a bigger cake, with world class frosting, but as I said, I knew when I was born that I was not going to get the most expensive cakes. I'm not complaining. I've been delighted with the quality of the cake I was given. The intensity of the candles was fantastic today...

...Yesterday wasn't my birthday, it was disappointing but that's the reality. It has to fight for its place on the calendar. It's been difficult for my birthday, but I'm optimistic. I spoke to my birthday, it's a good day with a promising future, and it's very happy here with the other days."

Thanks Insidious. I must have missed or forgotten all about what he said. Maybe I was still fuming about one of the occasions where he was bigging up his defensive abilities after they were previously questioned, only for him turn our defence back into a disorganised mess in the very next game.

Arne Slot believes keeping his Liverpool team together would mark a "big summer" for the club as he insisted Trent Alexander-Arnold's future is still "not done".

The Reds have secured captain Virgil van Dijk and leading scorer Mohamed Salah on new two-year deals, but there is uncertainty around the future of right-back Alexander Arnold because his contract expires in the summer.

"It's already a big summer now," said Slot. "It was a big thing - 'can we hold on to them?'.

"And by holding on already to two, it's already a big summer and let's see what the rest of the summer will bring.

"It would be strange for me to say now I'm not happy with the team we have, because I've said it for a year so we are happy with the team we have. Maybe if we can even keep that team that would already be a big summer."

Asked about Alexander-Arnold's situation, head coach Slot said: "Let's see what the future brings."
