No, that would begin with, “there are insufficient funds…”

that's the point. i think he wants to get Elliot....Carvaliho etc to step up. He believes in coaching not buying, unless he absolutley has to or it's the perfect player

Hi face tells a Totally different story,

But we shall all have to guess - apparently when asked about the need for midfield transfers he “isn’t the right person to ask” and it’s “a little difficult to answer”

Oh and “that’s all” he “can say”…

    Context is important I guess.

When we look at net spend, revenues etc the maths of us fans doing a bit of digging would suggest that there is probably money there - certainly for transfer fees.

What we're less privy to is the structure of certain fees with player amortisation and so on - people thought Van Dijk was paid for in one swoop, but it was three instalments of Ł25m. Whereas with Jota we paid almost nothing up front, but had to pay larger instalments at a later stage.

I think the most significant thing however is wages. We are giving out wages to eight midfielders - EIGHT - we can point out how injury-prone a bunch of them are, but the lads holding the purse-strings have every right to say "well, we extended Milner's contract, Henderson's contract is generous and we have Ł240,000-pee week (roughly Ł12.4m-per-year) largely going down the drain in those Ox and Keita lads of yours - work with what you have" and on a purely business level part of me thinks "well....yeah, I get it, fair enough".

I must admit my personal preference would be to front-load. Get a 9th lad in (temporarily) knowing that certain lads are leaving. For a half of last season we had Firmino, Mane, Salah, Minamino, Origi, Jota and Diaz - seven attacking options - probably one more than what was really needed.

But equally I wouldn't want to get a "stop-gap" if I thought it might jeopardise my chances of getting a better player later on.

    We can all see Sid.

The managers face and his words. He will continue to try and work miracles, but in the end it might be too much for his health.

It’s all there, or rather it’s not. Something is missing.

Don’t blame him. I am possibly reading too much into it but to me he looks trapped. Trapped by a love of the club and the people, but fed up with a near impossible ask.

We won' be signing Bellingham - It's not happening this summer - And he'll be looking for Champions League football next summer and we won't be offering it, he'll likely end up at City with Haaland

Ward's failure to recognise and grasp the market mechanisms with the MBappe saga and not going all out for Tchouameni while Real weren't orepared to bid looks very costly already

We could have brought back Gini on loan for a season, but like persisting with our failed signings and refusing to admit our midfield recruitment mistakes, we decided to cut off our nose to spite our face on that opportunity too

    Yup was great timing.
Also as a stop gap I don't even think we need Someone amazing, just someone who is strong and has the engine for some of the tougher games, or when we are being overrun.
Only henderson when fit can do this. It's not like he's amazingly talented lol

Understand you're feeling pessimistic, but I'd genuinely be surprised if we don't have Champion's League football next year.

    Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool/Man City/Man United/Newcastle/Tottenham

If we assume that they're the sides that will make up the top 7, then we need to be better than 3 of them. Despite the start, if we can grind for this period until the World Cup (16 League games will have been played) and find ourselves not too many points off 4th come the end of it, we can get a second push in the second half of the season's remaining 22 League games. We won't spend the whole season as hampered as we are now - we're struggling in both boxes and we will manage to sort at least one out in due course.

Not to forget that plenty of the above sides will take points off each other, as will others. A few teams have gotten off to quick starts which feels overwhelming, but we have seen Chelsea come out of the blocks flying only to wind down.

We'll know more after the first 10 games and know more still after the first 16 - then some of our lads can get some recovery in during the World Cup too - Salah and Matip won't be going, amongst others.

We could also win the Champion's League or we would fluff our Champion's League group, finish 3rd, drop down into the Europa and end up winning that.

A bad start that probably gets worse before it gets better, but I still think we'll be getting Champion's League football.
