A lot is going to sit on wee Ben Doak's shoulders. I personally would have no qualms about giving him minutes when Mo needs a breather. I know we get very carried away with youngsters, but I have a feeling in my bones that Doak is the next one to kick on.
Yeah if we compared to the Benitez triumvirate of Gerrard/Alonso/Mascherano I think it's fair to say Szoboszlai is closer to the forward-thinking, behind Torres (giggity) Gerrard than other midfield roles.

Agree on Doak - he will never be a "Salah replacement" but I think he could become a capable understudy for Salah and take some minutes, then be the eventual understudy to Salah's replacement in X number of years.

Just a reminder regards any panicking and Lavia.

Libertadores is on. There is every possibility that we -

    - Are tying up a deal for Lavia right now OR
    - View Andre as an alternate target and want to see how Fluminese do in the Tournament before making a move, rather than being disrespectful (and thus botching our chance of getting Andre) by making a bid that would disrupt the club and player during the Tournament.

Business is late, I get it. We want players now, I get it. Ensuring we get the right player for the next 3-6 years is probably worth a little bit of thin squad depth for the next 3-6 games with the obvious caveat of IF we get the right target/s.

We're going to end up paying £50m for a teenager with 29(?) games under his belt. When compared to the £100m or so spent on Mane, Firmino and Salah it only makes the Football transfer finance World make even less sense.

This is really poor from us. We have wasted all summer on this deal and as you say if we sign him we will have paid the full 50mil which we could have done weeks ago and moved on with our business. A total waste of time. And a risky bit of business at that.

Isn't that the same pattern of behaviour as the van Dijk deal? We play low ball, Southampton stand firm, we up the bid... a bit, and so on until it gets boring, Southampton still stand firm so we say no way are we paying that. Then we go back in the next window and pay exactly what they want.

If we truly want him agree it now for 50 and get him in, not try and compromise for 48 million on 1 Sep with 3 games already played. If he's not on big wages then they can afford to hold onto him.

Yeah Tyler is a lad I'd like here.

I'd like Lavia here - just think the fee is daft.

Southampton are bracing themselves for a £47.5m bid. Plus add ons.
