I will be controversial here. But i think Harry Karry is one of the main reasons England are not very good. hes world class when it comes to getting goals. But over all i don't think he helps the rest of the team. in games against better teams. (not that Iceland is a better team, well they are when the owl is in charge) but i digress. You want your number 9 to be quick and to be able to drop off and play deeper with other members of the team. He's not technically great at that. all he does is like a traditional 9 is wait for the ball to come to him around the box.
Against better footballing sides they just bi-pass the opposition.
