We aren’t doing that at all. We are going for potential in the main. Looking for the next Coutinho. And we know why that is.
I'd argue that's exactly what we're doing. But this is more to do with scouting then it is on money spent.
I would say other than Ali and Thiago, we haven't signed a single 'finished' product in the last 10 years. Suarez was plucked from the Dutch league and was reletively unkown Even big Virg was dicking about in Scotland for a long time before a few seasons in the bottom half of the Prem.
Wijnaldum, Mane, Shaqiri, Fabinho, Robertson were all signed from bottom half / relegated clubs and teams from outside the elite divisions.
It's good scouting, along side a manager that can get the best out of them.
We (the scouts) wont always get it right.
And it will be no good if we dont have a manager that can get the best out of them either. Equally, it wont matter how much money we spend if the manager isn't up to scratch.
Good scouting, good players, good manager.
