Can you see the logic in having good players with further room to fulfil their potential being available most of the time being a better option than having more talented players who are in their prime or just passed it hardly ever be available?

I'd argue that's exactly what we're doing. But this is more to do with scouting then it is on money spent.

I would say other than Ali and Thiago, we haven't signed a single 'finished' product in the last 10 years. Suarez was plucked from the Dutch league and was reletively unkown Even big Virg was dicking about in Scotland for a long time before a few seasons in the bottom half of the Prem.

Wijnaldum, Mane, Shaqiri, Fabinho, Robertson were all signed from bottom half / relegated clubs and teams from outside the elite divisions.

It's good scouting, along side a manager that can get the best out of them.

We (the scouts) wont always get it right.

And it will be no good if we dont have a manager that can get the best out of them either. Equally, it wont matter how much money we spend if the manager isn't up to scratch.

Luis Suarez - had been a Uruguay International for 4 years - count them - before we bought him. He was far and away the best player in the Dutch league and everyone knew it.

Only priced relatively low due to bitting an opponent in Holland. A theme that would continue as he forced through another relatively low ball exit to Barca.

To suggest Virgil was a relative unknown is beyond fanciful - Conte at Chelsea was desperate for him for a kick off..

He was courted by elite clubs at the time and for very good reason - Ditto Fabinho and certainly Alisson

As for the rest - well it's stating the obvious to an extent. But you are sorely mistaken IF you believe we are in for this calibre of player and at the frequency we were back in 2018.. And we all know why..

They're not messing about are they. That's 2 very good signings in him and that lanky striker. Meanwhile we haven't even a sniff of a decent signing yet and it's nearly August. Great.
