They, like Everton, have fallen behind on the footballing side of things, so a shiny new toy to self-declare relevance is the way to go - especially if you think you can get away with asking for tax-payer help for it in a cost-of-living crisis. They can call it "Wembley of the North" all they want, but Wembley is still sitting there in London and a number of Northern clubs can host friendly matches etc on a rotational basis as required.

Many of their fans miss having something to brag about at the Office, hence a clamour for a new build rather than preserving and upgrading their ground.

Worse so with (some) Everton fans who seemingly barely care that their club is on the verge of bankruptcy, just so long as they can have a cock-waving exercise in braggadocio about their stadium - it's wild.

Still - we'll see where it all ends up. The project may very well benefit them if done right - but the request of tax-payer help at the same time as all the job-cutting will continue to raise eyebrows.

Anfield is only really revered and so famous for its crowd mate that unique passion - that’s the people - the stadium bricks and mortar are literally nothing compared to many grounds around the country despite so called redevelopment.

    Go and see for yourself.
I too hate it that OT is bigger than Anfield but it's always been a bowl and had the corners filled in..Anfield never has...It's always been 4 separate stands plus OT has always had the advantage of where it's situated and more room to expand.....Even if we could upgrade the Kop and the KD stand maximum capacity would be maybe be just north of 70k....

4 separate stands is 100% a negative NOT a positive. In fact I cannot think of any scenario other thanLiverpool fans trying to spin a negative into a positive on this issue. It isn't in any way beneficial. Not from a line of sight perspective - not from an acoustic perspective OR and most importantly a capacity perspective.

Best ground in Europe imo Dortmund and they filled in the corners.. Can't keep letting Liverpool owners off with this one. It's time Anfield was something rather than the semi mess it is today. Remember this is AFTER so called redevelopment.

NO other elite clubs fans would accept this.

F$G did their due diligence on a club that had the guts ripped out of it by their fellow countrymen.

I am no architect - isn't there an issue with our stanchions which makes "filling the corners" at Anfield really difficult?

I vaguely recall reading about it maybe a year or so after the Pandemic.

Absolutely true Sid - I am not saying it would be cheap or easy. It takes the ambition. Like that shown by Real, Dortmund, Bayern (always had a bowl but now have a much better one) Barcelona - Spurs - Arsenal - Everton - Leicester City - Manchester City - all those superb stadia in Germany we saw during the Euros.

We have been left well behind. Now we have maxed out on the footprint by lopsided the ground and cannot really do anything. Snookered entirely due to persuing the cheapest option to increase corporate facilities

Wonder if (long-term) there would be any way of developing the Kop in such a way that the Skerries (?) was within a tunneled system or contained within the build some other way.

That’s the line of thinking I am suggesting Sid. There are ways to develop when there is a vision. I think a cantilever over Walton Breck is one way to make the Kop epic. Would be amazing. Same height as new main Stand - Then mirror the new main stand for SKD - fill in corners = Amazing ground. Monolithic. Like Dortmund but better. Would totally highlight the true power of the club. It’s legacy - a true reflection of the mighty reds.

Isn't there a road tunnel under one of the stands at Villa Park?

Dunno - one classy stadium though. Puts most grounds to shame. Kept it classic and somehow it feels like a complete unit rather than a collection of buildings bolted on to each other. Still needs massive modernising imo
