Scored a couple of decent goals in pre season, Slot may not be in a rush to let him go permanently

Indeed, Slot tried to sign him for Feyenoord.

According to The Athletic, Slot has been ‘hugely impressed’ by what he’s seen from Carvalho. The Dutchman reportedly now plans on using the forward during the season, unless a suitable offer arrives.

Always felt there was genuine quality in there - let’s see IF he has the mentality to make it work with Slot.

Yep, many players have had the talent but not the mentality for a top club. We are a massive club world wide, every game is huge, you can’t have one decent game in 4 or 5 and get away with it.

Not at all surprised, given the lack of departures.

We'll be registering a 25-man squad in the coming season. Currently, it looks like -

    Goalkeepers - we have 3 -

    Alisson
    Kelleher
    Jaros

    Defenders - we have 9 -

    Robertson
    Tsimikas
    Van Dijk
    Konate
    Gomez
    Sepp
    Quansah
    Trent
    Bradley

    Midfielders - we have 8 -

    Mac Allister
    Szoboszlai
    Jones
    Elliott
    Gravenberch
    Endo
    Bajcetic
    Morton

    Forwards - we have 6 -

    Salah
    Núńez
    Jota
    Gakpo
    Diaz
    Carvalho

So that takes us up to 26 players.

That ignores Nat Phillips - a lad who is unlikely to feature in the first-team squad, but is on the wages of a first-team squad member

Then we have a list of lads who could potentially supplement our main group, or we should be sorting loans for - depending on people's views on individuals. This is lads like Beck, Nyoni, Clark, Doak - add others at your leisure.

For context , last season some of these lads were around more than we may think. Doak made 15 out of the 24 match day squads that he was fit for, which is easily overlooked. Clark made the match day squad 23 times last season out of the 58 games that we played - so they are not far at all from getting chances to feature, in theory.

Then we have lads who aren't QUITE there yet, but we may try to develop further rather than sell - lads like In addition there’s McConnell, Gordon, Koumas aren't too far away.

So lads like McConnell, Gordon, Koumas, Beck, Nyoni, Clark and Doak all need to be getting loans or we have to leave space for them to break into featuring close to our main 25-man group, depending on how we see them.

This will hopefully give some insight into the fact we have quite a few players. We should upgrade in key areas where we can of course, but I don't see much incoming activity if the outgoings don't happen - we won't (for example) buy a 6 and have Endo sitting in a no-man's land outside of the lost of 25 - we'd need a buyer.

So the current squad is arguably too big to carry into a season as it stands just now, with us still wanting to allow for the development of some U21 lads.

Lads like Rhys Williams and Koumetio need sorting too - unless Koumetio went to Dundee - I can't remember.

Sales to sort, loans to sort - and that's purely on the squad size basis, before we get to the usual points people bring up regarding financial outlay.

Will be an interesting few weeks whatever happens - and I wouldn't be surprised if we use the January window either, as so many clubs are sorting PSR stuff within a short window due to international tournaments.

Well that squad is not good enough to challenge for the prem or try for champs league.

    That back line.....

Even the attack after last season isn't very impressive..... unless diaz starts actually being better than theo walcott and jota stays injury free for once and not out half rthe season the midfield isn't exactly the best either compared to others.

I guess we're back to the days of being happy with top 4, is what it is.
