75 million quoted? that will take some no from Everton to turn that down. With Gomez more than likely to leave. money will be earned from that transfer.

I wouldn't be entirely against that.

If you take centre-back pairings and goalies and treat them as a single unit, then the combo of Branthwaite, Tarkowski and Pickford conceded the fourth-fewest in relation to their xG last season - only us, Arsenal and Man City fared better in what is admittedly a very niche metric to measure.

He is young, strong, not a total slouch at all (would admittedly prefer quicker) and wins a lot of aerial duels. In fact, he wins a lot of duels full-stop - I think only 3 centre-backs outperformed him in the League on an individual basis last season and he was in the top five for interceptions.

Stats aren't of much use without being taken within relevant context of course - have to think about how a side is coached (Dyche sides won't play like Slot sides etc) and why a player may be involved in needing to make more duels ("backs against the wall" for Everton) but on paper he certainly looks like he merits being looked at by the scouting and stats nerds.

Can't see it happening, but if we were to replace Gomez with a player, then why not one with room to improve, much younger, taller and stronger if - IF - he has enough positive attributes to merit playing to the strengths of our new Manager's set-up?

Everton apparently turned down Ł45m from Man Utd last month?

Perhaps the transfer committee have decided to target players already based in the north-west so they are not put off by moving to Liverpool. Meanwhile Burnley midfielder Sander Berge was left out of their match day squad...just saying.

    Or ….

Liverpool have reportedly reignited their interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi amid claims that Newcastle have cooled their interest in the centre-back.
