I am loathe to use business terminology around the subject as it leads to the same, tired points of discussion, but it will be about "value" and "declining assets".

The club will more than likely want to pay the players for the rate that represents what they are and what they will become, as opposed to what they have achieved in the past.

If we have paid someone £350k-per-week during their absolute prime, who is now in their 30s, we are unlikely to raise it to £400k-per-week or more as they are unlikely to improve upon what has been a ridiculously high level. Unless Salah breaks the mould and gets EVEN BETTER they won't seem him to be worthy of a salary increase, much as we may protest given his massive contributions to the club.

Equally, Salah would (I imagine) rightly telling us where to go if we suddenly offered him a drop to £200k-per-week. So someone will be tasked with the unenviable job of offering him something where he still feels valued and respected, whilst we don't over-pay, as it isn't how we operate - until such a time where we tweak (or outright change) our model, which doesn't look to be imminent.

This is before we consider whether or not the funds could be better utilised. Whilst I would advocate to keep Salah, I can see why staff may feel that we could pay 3 younger lads around £100k-per-week (who are the future) rather than a 30+ year old.

Situation will be the same with Van Dijk. Trent likely hasn't peaked yet, so offering him a salary increase makes much more sense.
Currently both are performing at the top of their game. So we should at least be offering same wage as they are currently on. 1 year extension with option of another year.

    Probably talking to his agent.

If Mo wants to extend with LFC there'll be an offer. There will be offers elsewhere as well.
Early days under Slot & Edwards. Been a solid start & Mo is buzzing for the season.

Or, as Mo has stated publicly, there has been no contact from the club.

I'm hoping is due to change of manager and executive structure. They had to navigate the transfer window. Now all that's down, they have 3 months to get an offer to the 3 players.

I'd personally happily offer both at least two more years.

Yeah I would say offering them both 2 more years is a fair offer.

Ya 2 years. Even 1 year with an option of a 2nd. Same wages as currently on. If they refuse, at least we tried and we know they want one last pay day.

The 3 of them are very important players for us. It shouldn't be underestimated the effect them leaving could have.

Mo was entering his final year, I'm sure he could have got a contact at the club to speak with about his contract. Maybe Klopp new someone at the club

What I heard from Mo today....

He's committed as fuck this season whether he is in his last year or not, and would be willing to extend if the right offer comes. Or if the club new about its contract situation....

If you don't apply some critical thinking, you'd have to think this was the first time Mo though it was worth talking about, on TV

If Mo Salah plays the rest of his top end career at LFC, and retires abroad, his legendary status can only increase. If he goes next summer, he'll leave a legend and hopefully with more titles this season.

All very plausible, just as you could flip what you said and say, the club knew he (and the others) was entering his final year and they knew a contact that could have approach Mo.

In this case it's up to the club to make the opening offer. The player has all the power in this case. Yes if he really really wants to stay he could offer to stay for half the wages, but we all know that won't happen. So the club need to offer him something, which by the sounds of it, hasn't happened yet.
