It's interesting how your objection & obstacle to replacing Matip seems to be our need for a 4th choice goalkeeper Harvey Davies.

The only thing stopping Slot is the lack of backing under the owners (as it did with Klopp).....
We have 9 games between now and 1 Feb, and have 2 fit CB at the club with the other two, Konate and Gomez, both injury prone, out.....
It would be sabotage (again) if we didn't bring one in. It isnt sustainable having 4, two of whom injury prone, to last a season....
Under proper ownership run by football people I'd be confident we would address this, but this is the same ownership group who wheeled Jürgen out in the Jan 21 window, when top of the league and no senior CB for the rest of the season, to tell a stunned press room that signing a CB was unlikely, before the last ditch bargain bucket double signing of loanee Kabak and 500k Davies who never kicked a ball for us in the worst window of any team since its inception.....
We lost Matip and didn't bring one in. We need a fifth in there to avoid another sabotage job.....
And central midfield, we have been lucky so far that the 4 senior midfielders for the 3 positions have largely been fit, but over a season it is unlikely to last. We needed another one in the summer but failed to get one, and that need remains.....
We have another elite manager, don't also hamper him. And sort out those bloody contracts too.....
On the flip side, if Slot feels Endo can do a job there (CB) if needed, we probably won't buy anybody (unless a long-term potential Virg replacement becomes available).....
To be fair to Gomez (who I am assuming is one of the two you have down as being prone to injury) his availability since the big ACL injury has been pretty good.
Gomez has only missed 1 month from He was out for that month in November-through-December of 2021 and unavailable for a month through February-to-March of 2023, but beyond that has been readily available.
Just unfortunate timing.
I suspect we trust Quansah against Man United (a full week away) and 1-3 games after that we will probably have Konate available, with Gomez hopefully back with us after 6 weeks or so.
Naturally if there is a Summer transfer option that we can pull forward with a view to acquiring in January then great, but I really hope we don't entertain a stop-gap when we should be back up to 3 centre-backs within a few games.
Endo (not had many minutes, fresh) can do a job for us if we absolutely need him to for the likes of the League Cup semi-final fixtures against Tottenham which sorts two games out and Gravenberch can be an option for us if pushed at a time when Elliott is available to help rotate with Mac Allister, Jones and Szoboszlai.
January and early February need to be negotiated carefully, but I genuinely don't see the picture as being as bad as our previous centre-back debacle.
