Personally I prefer to rely on the good old eye test, I totally understand the qualities Nunez brings to the table and how these qualities have contributed to our points tally this season, unfortunately his propensity to pick the wrong pass, get caught offside, fail to control the ball, panic under pressure and his constant failure to select the right finish in front of goal…is the most frustrating.
I think everyone, including non LFC supporters would put him nowhere near a comparison with Isak, who may not offer the same athletic qualities as Nunez, but regardless of Isak’s stats, his all round control, finishing and decision making is on another level to Nunez this season…
The problem I have with Nunez is the negative impact his failing can have on his fellow team mates when he constantly proves to be the weakest link in our attacks… that for me is a big problem. All the coaching, patterns of play and high press efforts are all geared to creating good goal scoring chances, if those goal scoring chances are then constantly wasted by poor decision making or a lack of composure in front of goal, especially an open goal, the effect on the rest of the starting 11, subs and coaching staff can be devastating….
So on that basis, I wouldn’t start him and I would simply give Chiesa a try in that false 9 role… not from the start, but coming off the bench. Nunez needs to realise he has to improve or for me, he should be spending a lot more time on the bench…
Hey ho we all see things differently, and who knows, Nunez may surprise us all and win it for us today… wouldn’t that be nice. If he did, I would be the first to congratulate him…
