Leverkusen? We played them at Anfield no? So that leaves.. Lille and Bournemouth..where we were lucky not to lose again.
Great results tees but again the at the Cherries we scored 1 from open play - they could and should have had 3.
Possibly you are thinking of Milan? Away - great result...and well deserved - but they have ben poor.
Lille was at Anfield too.
Ah apologies I thought they were away.
Excuse me, but isn’t my saying that we kept giving the ball away which help increase their confidence on the ball and us constantly giving it away diminished ours, exactly the same thing….
Second half it’s argued we limited them to shots outside the box, but when the opposition has 27 shots 10 of which are on target can hardly be described as defending well…. if the boot was on the other foot, we would laugh at that analysis… we got lucky pure and simple.
Agreed we can and need to play better at Anfield, but be under no illusion, if we don't play with more control, composure and skill on Tuesday… PSG will exploit that and we will ultimately be risking elimination from this seasons CL…
Thank god Alisson had a MOTM performance, brilliant result at home we should be better.
Looking back PSG were at fault for not putting us away. They got us on a bad night and we still beat them so they've only themselves to blame.
And we'll beat them at Anfield.
Speaking of impressive....
....just thinking back on some of the sides we have had results against.
Real Madrid, Champions of Spain, 2-0 victory.
Leverkusen, Champions of Germany, 4-0 victory.
Man City, Champions of England, 2-0 victory....twice.
PSG, Champions of France, 1-0 victory.
Pity we won't be playing the Italian Champions this season as that would have been quite a collector's item in terms of accomplishments this season outside of trophies. A bit like the nice collection of grounds we got away victories at under Benitez in Europe.
Not a patch on trophies of course, but still enjoyable.
Agree dude. Collectively it's impressive I think.
There's lots of little improvements this season that have got us where we are right now, circumstances and situations out of our control have benefitted us but there's nothing we can do but control our own fate.
Nothing won yet as we know but it's progress and long may it continue.
Yea - lot's of cherry picking going on and a total disregard for the facts on the ground.
Just as we could only draw at home to Fulham via a last gasp equaliser - there were mitigating circumstances.
Just as we lost at PSV where an Arsenal side minus all senior forwards won by 7 goals to 1. there were mitigating circumstances.
Just as we lost away in Devon - there were mitigating circumstances
Ditto the loss at home to Forrest only managing a single point across both games via an equaliser in the reverse fixture.. Where were Forrest last season BTW - as if that is in any way a marker..![]()
We beat Los Blancos YES: But Real had been spanked teice just a few weeks prior 4:0 at home by Barca and again in the Bernebeu by a poor Milan side that also only made the play offs and lost out to Feyenoord! Mbappe scratching for form and Real minus 2/3 of their attack... And we played them once - at Anfield.
To put the claim v Man City into perspective - apart from us they have lost to:
League:
2:1 away at Bournemouth
2:1 at home to Brighton
4:0 at home to Spurs
2:1 at home to United
2:1 away at Villa
5:1 away at Arsenal
Champions League:
4:1 to Sporting Lisbon
2:0 away at Juventus
4:2 to PSG after taking the lead
3:2 at home to Real
3:1 away at Real
At the end of the day - we want to win everything we can - picking out individual games here and there and suggesting it's great because X were champions last season.. means diddly..
We need to beat the Saints - I know - I know.. easy you all say..
Just beat the Saints and see where we are..
