Same could be have been said of Big Virg.

Equally he might 'pop off' and have 40 goal season and put himself in the running for a Balloon Door, then go on to be the club's talisman, winning everything in his path for the next 10 years. And everyone will be thinking that Ł130m was a snip...

Precisely - if he flops we (even I) can’t blame the owners. It’s a ballsy signing - shows genuine intent AND clout. Proper big boys pants…

This is a huge coup for the club. He’s a
wonderful player and the fee is still less than Barca paid for Coutinho in 2018…

You'd hope that a combo of him szobo and macca with grav behind could really cause some problems for defences

Murillo would be awesome as comp for konate.
It's a crazy amount of money for someone from that league, regardless of how much potential he has. Hasn't he already torn his ACL aswell? Huge risk for me. Wouldn't be arsed at all if this deal goes tits up.

A risk for sure - but a calculated one.

I am pretty confident that we will have success with him as a key component in the side.

Virgil had been in the Scottish Prem before Southampton.. I think the quality is obvious with Wirtz. Hopefully it translates.. Always a risk BUT this is what Klopp said he would have liked to have had more of.. The chance to take some risks.

    Good business imo

I could understand the concern if he was some 17 year old kid who's just had half a season of football. Like an Endrick say, but he's been tearing up the Bundesliga for the last 4 years since his debut and has 30+ caps for Germany as their 'main man'.

When we've discussed over the years, about the club pushing the boat out this is exactly the the kind of player/signing we were talking about.

I wasn't particularly arsed when the Bellingham, Caicedo, Zubimendi deals fell through. I will be if this one doesn't go through.

Seeing Bellingham recently and Caicedo I think it was a blessing in disguise we missed out on them, buying Grav, Macca, Szob and Endo instead for less money than either of these players, has genuinely paid off in spades… it’s right when they say you need to be careful what you wish for…

Wirtz on the other hand, looks like a slam dunk rather than a speculative opportunistic gamble..

Caicedo had a brilliant season in a Chelsea side mis managed by a bog standard manager this term. Klopp bags him and we might win number 20 in 2024.. Players perform differently at different clubs with different managers. See Salah - in a good Chelsea setup vs us with Jurgen..

The examples you listed of the players we got instead of breaking the bank for bellingham etc is what I'm talking about.

Its all well and good if we spend this fee and are also able to strengthen in other areas... as well as next season etc.

Fsg have been cheap for a 40m player extra in a couple of klopp seasons Inc last (where we only got a broken chiesa) which cost us a title and a cl imo.

Now suddenly we're doing 'statement' buys? Its almost like marketing for them, or perhaps shame from the caicedo incident? I find it all very strange.

Anyway, if vvd or konate gets a long injury we are done.
