“I’m just waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool gives us a good renewal or I still have the [two] years left with them, I’ll be happy and content there.”

Luis's next contract will be his last big one and that goes for the agent too so maybe the agent is shit stirring.

Seems like the club don't particularly want to sell Diaz and would be happy for him to run his contract down and leave on a free.

Ok so it’s not that they’re not happy with the offer, we haven’t actually made one.

Which is how I understood it.

Not that I understand the club not offering such an integral part of the attacking unit some sort of extension with just two years left on his deal.

I thought that all along. the clubs in no hurry, Diaz still has two years left.. I feel for him if hes only on small salary like its been touted. when hes played most of the season and the likes of Chiesa gets paid double and played like 18 and half minutes in the league campaign
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

Guess it's like Trent, VVD & Mo, saying no contract offers were received ,
when in reality Mo & VVD were done deals at LFC, and Trent had terms agrees with real.

Sounds like Diaz & Agent have pushed for high wages, the clubs said no, he can leave when the contracts up unless a bid is received.

Does make sense (for the club) to assess their options.

At the age of 28, he still has resale value, so money received could be invested in a younger talent.

He'll also be 29 in January, so will be approaching 31 in an as-yet-hypohetical third season from now where he has extended.

Will we want to be paying him (let's say) Ł150k-per-week at that stage (27/28 season and onwards) when he is likely in decline or about to enter it, given how we typically allocate funds?

I can understand a lack of an offer from the club in that context. They're likely weighing up what's best between two good years from a quality player at a discounted rate (low wages) or receiving a fee to reinvest into our long-term future.

From the human/merit side of it he absolutely deserves more than his current wage, but data/recruitment/numbers etc is rather indifferent to that stuff and (long-term) that will be a good thing more often than not.

    Yes, totally understandable Sid.

I like to think Luis is on a nice performance bonus for winning the league to supplement his basic wage but don't know details.

I read that Konate wants a higher basic wage instead of performance-related bonuses.

Hopefully the squad will all be happy campers come the new season.

if we keep Konate in future that's some strength of depth at CB now
    VVD
    Konate
    Guehi
    Gomez

And it's needed, VVD can't be expected to play every game anymore- and him and konate will pick up injury's

Neither Guehi nor Konate will want to be considered third choice.

Noone will be 3rd choice probably play same amount of games

Your logic- why does gomez want to be 4th choice ?

not as simple as that, also pretty sure guehi knows he's only 24 and has 10 years ahead of him unlike vvd, think it'll be his last starting personally, pretty sure he'll have promises made

that's if konate signs a new contract too....
