He's a really good striker but in the 'battering ram' mould. Not sure that is what we really need.
My favourite option would be Julian Alvarez with Rodrygo. (Has the Alvarez link gone completely cold?).
Mateta doesn't fit the age profile at all, and not sure he even fits our style of play. Is he even in the French national team?
Maybe we are spreading this 'rumour' to get our real target to get his finger out and sign up.

I think we need a bit of physicality and strength up the pitch if we let Nunez go.. He will score more than Nunez and thats all that matters..
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

I think Mateta is excellent, Proven in the premier league and in a better side he'd be superb. He'd score a ton in our side. He lacks rapid pace, that's the only problem for me.
All that being said I don't see it being anything other than paper talk.

Alvarez is the only option for me.

Proven at the very top level & used to playing second fiddle to Halaand/Messi. All the other candidates lack those 2 qualities.

Joining LFC brings next level pressure, and you'll be playing 2nd fiddle to Salah for the immediate future.

Now reading we’re looking to bring him in for £34m. Back up striker then, yep he’ll do for that role

    Newcastle linked with Ekitike.
I dont see them buying him and Elanga without selling.
    Isak en route.

Giovanni Leoni in with Federico Chiesa going the other way to play for the club his dad played for. Ah.

Lolz. Hope we get Geuhi and Isak. Not overly fussy on Rodrygo to be honest. Seems like a Chelsea signing to me, I don't see him settling in the UK if he moved here.

I’d rather keep Diaz than sign Rodrygo
