Just stop effing about over a couple of million and bring him in. Konate’s head has gone, he’s been terrible, we can’t rely on him going forward. Why the hell would we screw this season by waiting to get him on a free? He’s needed now.

Exactly.. Just get him now and relegate Konate to the bench.

Yea but every little helps. We are broke - can’t risk £5m even if it is crucial to a title defence

Get what you're saying and if I were in control, part of me would be very tempted to just pay it.

Flip side, I can see merits in us being consistent about saying what we mean and meaning what we say on regards to transfers, so as not to be a club that is easily fleeced in future a la Man United.

Dismissing a "£5m is nothing" stance could hypothetically mean getting him for £20m in January and suddenly there's £15m towards the next player £45m acquisition - and so on and so forth.

Where I'd be more inclined towards wiggle-room is when we try to SELL players. Us having £15m valuations of Nat Phillips and Ox when we received £12.5m offers and our refusal meant that instead of getting £25m in the kitty for players we wanted rid of, we got nothing - hindsight is a wonderful thing but we really ought to have taken the money there in my eyes.

And that’s fair enough if he’s guaranteed to come to us, but he isn’t.

Who’s to say City, Madrid etc won’t need a new CB in Jan and offer Palace the £40m they were after in this window.

We are relying on a player in Konate who doesn’t seem to be fully focused yet and a utility player in Gomez who’s hardly ever fit.

I wouldn’t want to throw an inexperienced 18 year old into a large number of games or have to reply on the likes of Endo for long periods.

    Completely understand your apprehensions.

Equally, whilst it's plausible that another side could come in for him, Guehi may well "only want" Liverpool - we just don't know.

Less than 48 hours from now we will know more so it's going to have to be another play-through of Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy VII for me rather than refreshing Google searches about Guehi and Isak - hopefully good news ahead.

Excited to see Leoni's first performance in a red shirt as well when it comes.

Can you imagine we started him?

Would be ballsy. I'm all for it like, but it would be seriously ballsy.

Leoni and Guehi are the future first choice CB pairing. How soon that happens depends on the drop off timeline of VVD. Gomez may still be around in 3yrs to cover but virg and konate wont.
