He is an attacking player kev. He has one assist and that against 10 man Spurs, the team with the worst home record of any Premier League team over the last two seasons.

He is NOT getting results from his play. He jogs around a lot but it’s not enough.

The levels we require from his position are the likes of Rogers, Palmer and Foden, please tell me how he affects games like those three for example??

One five yard assist?? Nope, not for me.

Maybe if our midfielders passed to him it might help. He's finding space but our players can't find him though It's getting better but it's taking alot longer than I expected.

We have a German salesman come over to England last week for a company knees up. He's been going to Leverkusen games for 30 years and says Wirtz is the best player he's ever seen.

He also said the same as you Ian, that he's just getting enough of the ball.

But I think it's just the way we play. It's too slow, we want far too many touches of the ball.

I thought Wirtz linked up quite well Kirkez. At least he passes him the ball, unlike Gakpo!

Even at £100m it's far too early to write him off. Caicedo looked a waste of money in his first season. Chelsea ditched both De Bruyne and Mo after a season.

I really do hope it's "getting better" - not convinced as yet... A huge amount of examining fairly pointless stats to try and assert the notion that our £116 million play maker is actually being epic.

We played a shyte Spurs side and created literally SWEET FA. Side to side, pedestrian BS...Nada ZIP... Put David Silva or his diluted Portuguese namesake Bernardo in there and we are creating havoc through that non existent Spurs midfield..

There is nobody more willing to praise Wirtz - when it's deserved - than myself..!

Let's be honest, until the sending off Spurs are the more likely to score.. AND after the sending off.. Spurs the more likely to score. They ended the game with the higher XG FFS. We have -0.60 from 65% of the ball?? WTF.. We beat them 2:1 - could easily have been 2:2 and that's against 10 for most of the game and 9 for the last 10 minutes.. This is the side with the WORST home record in the league across 2 seasons...! The result was hugely fortunate. The manner of the sending off - literally pointless challenge from Simmons - and then our second goal.. I meant that's 9 times in 10 being chalked off.

Top result - diabolical performance - hoping to see the maestro come good... Merry Christmas..

I only saw MOTD highlights of Saturday's game. Wirtz looked to be involved at least and showed a few neat turns and link-up. Hard to tell from a small sample. I would say in his defence, that the whole team has been terrible so him coming good is probably that bit harder this season than if he had slipped into the team a year ago. There are promising signs with him an Ekitike and Kerkez....small signs....

Agreed. I watched the whole game though..

BUT he has walked into a complete mess. Same for Hugo though.. and he was dropped for no good reason by a weak manager. Trust me - Slot is on thin ice. I feel sorry for him, but right now he looks out of his depth. A good run of results over Christmas is the bare minimum for him. At least that's what I am hearing

Florian needs to help him out. He needs to show far far more and we all know it. Any player can come good given enough ooportunity, the point is - will it happen in time. This is the problem when you pay that much for one man.

    Hope it happens.. clock ticking

Not his fault the fee though, well in a way it is because he stormed the german league and everyone has rated him one of the best young players for a reason..... he hasn't turned into Jones who's had a few good games, but very average v spurs...

he's just not what we needed in the first place, still don't understand it how we can be short on the flanks in attack... CB and could do with another midfielder in the middle not attack minded.... yet we buy 2 strikers and wirtz.... one waste of time for this season.... best window ever they said, Lols.

instead of isak, we should've got a boss LW who can play up front too, and have some money left over for a midfielder/CB

Why are the "Transfer staff" still employed- like the set-piece coach i'll never know

Yeah. I'm inclined to agree re Slot. The biggest issue is the manner of performance. It's been dreadful by and large and even last season we were effective but quite boring. Is that what we want from Liverpool?

Agree. I'm not one bit concerned about him. It'll happen eventually and like you say look at how Caciedo started compared to now. Night and day.
He's a young kid in a foreign country in a different league with a huge price tag that'll feel like a millstone.

It's a strange one. We could make the case for these signings if the manager seemed to use them better I think. Get Kerkez to the by-line. Get Macca and Salah out of the team when underperforming. Get Chiesa or Frimpong or someone on the RW to get crosses in. Attack attack attack. Put the opposition on the back-foot instead of turning back and passing inside all the time. I won't be convinced that the players we have shouldn't/couldn't be playing a lot better than they currently are:

    Alisson
    VVD
    (even Konate)
    Kerkez
    Grav
    Szobo
    Bradley (Frimpong if fit)
    Ekitike
    Wirtz
    Chiesa

All of the above are more than capable of putting together some decent games. Why aren't they? They've been by and large awful since September. It's now Christmas.....
