Carragher was a decent enough defender but nothing special,If i recall correctly he started off in midfield? and was too slow for that position. I still can't quite get over why he dived to try to stop an attack against Milan in the final... Talk about leaving yourself for dead.. Thankfully Gerrard had a second half to remember ,and we know what happened not long after!

Too true Justme he was never a top class CB he was at fault for all 3 first half goals in Istanbul too what he’s had for a career and now as a pundit is hugely above what his ability ever warranted

When I wanted Kompany who went for peanuts because of his contract when City had money but no profile was when Rafa tried offloading him to some or somewhere

I always was puzzled when Kompany went to Hamburg. Nobody took the punt and even when he went to City he wasn't rated as one of European best. Loads of clubs will have kicked themselves afterwards.

I really rated Hyypia,. He and Virgil are up there in my opinion .. But i give the gong to Carragher (i jest)

Sami was a class act. One of the most underrated CBs. I think our fan base always knew but now I think he gets the credit he deserves belatedly by other fans too.
Hyypia and Henchoz were an awesome partnership and one of the best things Ged did at LFC.

I think this is one of the easier 'who's the bestest' kind of debates.

I think these two are head and shoulders above.

And Virg is a good level above Kompany. As good as our 18-21 side was, it's not winning a bean with VVD.
