If it's a choice between letting him go, or him signing a new contract on more money, I'd go with the former. He's too much of a liability far too often.

If he ends up getting his increased wage. Then we are rewarding him for being absolute shit. Anyway the reason hes staying cause he knows Madrid or Psg will not touch him..

If we give Konate a new contract instead of doing what we should have done seasons ago i.e. get in a couple of quality CB's, I will already be concerned about what's going to happen to us next season.

If Konate leaves we would have to use budget for his replacement instead of on a 6 or a second wide forward

Konaté as one of our four centre-backs is fine for me.

What I wouldn't want is him starting all 38 games in the League or feeling he has no competition for his place.

This season, with the injury to Leoni, Gomez being a player we have to manage and Slot having no time for Endo, we have seen Konaté play a LOT of games.

Hopefully with having Jacquet here next season and Leoni hopefully being given a chance to "start again" (rather than being sold to an Italian club or something) we might see things be a bit more competitive in terms of places etc

If we're going to pay players huge sums of money, those players need to be able to put in consistently good performances throughout the season. We shouldn't be paying big bucks to any player who is going to spend any kind of significant time on the bench, never mind an error prone player.

I get what you're saying, but I tend to affiliate proneness to error with sharpness.

Generally speaking, lads who have genuine competition are "on it" a lot more.

I'd personally keep him - "better the Devil you know" and all that, plus having a French centre-back could be invaluable for settling Jacquet in.

But if we agree to disagree on it that's grand - not like our opinions on the subject will make a shred of difference to the outcome.

I have been thinking about it .... and frankly without a Jurgen Klopp level manager and with the current model... we are going to need something like this... And IF we are honest - the Premier league has never seen a player before or since at this level.

Too good for the league. Thank the good lord Arsenal never landed him - and he went to Barca...where despite the Messi narrative - many many Barcelona fans said it was Luis Suarez that was the first name on the team sheet.

How we didn't manage to win a title with this lad I just do not know.

If he'd started at Barca or moved there earlier in his career, I genuinely think he'd have been thought of as one of the best of all time. I'd personally put him ahead of Messi and Ronaldo.

Unfortunately for him (fortunately for us!) he spent his best years suffing around with Andy Carroll, Jon Flanagan and and Ally Cissokho.
