Don't want to start a new thread. Just watching MOTD. Is wayne Rooney the worst pundit they've ever had.? He doesn't give any opinions. He just parrots what he's asked. He was asked tonight about salah. He just mumbled some stuff and said yeah he's been very good. The insight.

I think like us all. I got a bit emotional seeing Salah and Robbo depart the pitch. But i think it's not that heartbreaking in the sense of what could be further down the line. They have both gone to the ends of the earth for this club.
I felt more upset when Suarez left. Just because he left in his prime
Salah will go down as the best inside right player to ever play for us..That's some praise considering the players we'be had down the ages
And Roberson was the best left back in the league for several seasons.. will take a monumental task to replace them,

You're right, both generational players. Just like Alison,Virgil,Trent, Mane, Firminho. You can't replace those players. Some will disagree but I'd add Hendo to them. Id kill for that solidity and leadership in midfield now.

We were lucky enough to have them all in one team but it's also cursory that a lot have left within a short few years and it makes the task to replace them nigh on impossible.

Trent aside, they are all a similar age. That team was always likely come to an end at roughly the same time.

Though I'm not sure replacing them in big chunks is the way to go...

We've been very good in the transfer market for number of years, I just don't think we've gone about succession planning very well at all.

Yep Mane what a player, Diaz was a decent player for us. But Mane was much better than him. But if we can find someone on the level of Diaz,we'd be happy. Rio looks a great prospect, But needs time and we can't rely on him for a full season,And Gakpo least said about him the better.
Strange thing, I actually rated him, until this season, he did well in his first season and the second. Utter tripe this time around

Aye you're right, the integration of players to take their place in the squad has pretty much been an abject failure up to this point. The CB issue has been going on for years, Matip left two years ago and we've got nobody even close to how good he was.
Diaz left who was a quality player on that left so we did get a good replacement for Mane although not as good.

It was an all time great team and it rarely if ever happens that you get seamless replacement but when you look at last season and the players brought in we would have expected so much more.
Wether a different manager changes that is something we'll have to wait to see.
Maybe it's not as far away as I think? We do have good quality in there. We just need a few real players to bring the level up again.

Wasn’t luck. Coincided with Jurgen Klopp and it’s highly doubtful any of Bobby - Trent or Mane get to World class levels without him.

just a brief look at 3 from Liverpool and Dortmund highlights this point - they all went precisely nowhere once Jurgen wasn’t there.

    Liverpool
    Philippe Coutinho - Barcelona
    Georginio Wijnaldum - PSG
Sadio Mané (Moved to Bayern Munich)

    Dortmund
    Mario Götze - Bayern
    Shinji Kagawa - Manchester United
    Nuri Şahin - Real

Re: Gakpo. Yeah I really thought he was going to kick on this season, I thought he was a good player last year and looked like he had another level in him. This season has shown he's just not up to it.

Like Alex off YnwA reds says, a coward of a player at times yet gets 90 mins pretty much every game.
If he's in our starting 11 under Slot come August we are in bother from the off.

I know - and you’re right … I am just being anal and shouting out that wherever Klopp went players out performed all expectation. Hendo - became a great captain - was never that much of a player tbh - technically speaking but he became a leader under Klopp. These fellas - Salah included - Imo no way he gets close to those numbers but for Jurgen. The man just made them all the best versions of themselves and then got another 10% on top.

As with the so many of fans he built that inner belief…
