    Captain Virgil

Not a criticism of virgil but I watched Hansen in the 80s. Never made a tackle because he never needed to. Closest ive seen is Virgil. What has happened? When a guy with that presence looks lost we have serious issues & I cant be the only one who has seen our decline etched on this guys reactions. There's something not right with us as a club. As the best. Its klopps team being dismantled too fast & an exit door open where we will need 11 squad players to compete. Sorry for the rant but shit we are a mess. Positives....I guess Linda looks good in a red dress.

I would say its age, all our reflexes slow down as you grow older. And on top of that hes played a hell of a lot of football. his body is struggling.

We're looking like Souness 2.0 right now. We're going to try to change the entire team in two summers. Crazy stuff. Didn't work then. Won't work now. I would say VVD is the least of our worries. He was wobbly at times but he still has the nous. Many of the players right now look lost. Worrying.

Ideally Virg would get 25-30 League starts per season.

Playing every minute of 38 League starts plus most European games is definitely going to have an impact.

I dont blame virgil at all.

The guy turns 35 in a month. Played practically every fucking game last season for a clown manager with no tactics, no set backline, no defensive mids and no fight from the team for most of the season.

Yeah he had a pretty average season. Now tell me who didn't?

The geezer has had to play literally EVERY SINGLE GAME he possibly could play in...since we signed him in January 2018!!!!!.

I have been banging on about this for 5 years... ANYONE questioning him - needs to get real. HE has still been one of our better performers..

Even at 80% capacity Virgil is still better than most CB's in Europe at 100%. He may have looked more human this year, but that is less about his individual decline and more about a disjointed/transitional/crap Liverpool team exposing him to chaotic situations. Without him holding the floor together, this season could have looked significantly worse.

This is it 100%. Even when you think back to how high we pushed up under Klopp we always had bodies in front to help out. Even in his prime Virg would struggle with how we played this season.

    I didn't blame him.

I would love to prolong his career here. I don't see making him play so many minutes as the way to do that.

I'd want to rotate him more (or go to a back three) precisely so we can enjoy him for longer, if he wants to stay.
