    Bit like Mascherano/Alonso/Gerrard I guess.

Doesn't really help that maca has been stinking the place out, wonder what's up with him
None of the players you listed are destroyers

Wirtz needs 3 ahead of him when he’s been furthest forward with Ekitike it hasn’t worked in my view, when the 3 are occupying defenders he can see a picture

Yesterday there were 4 players ahead of him occupying defenders for him to move into the space and assist and score

Please try to think of Countinho and De Bruyne how they started in midfield and joined the forwards

If everyone picks up and presses you don’t especially need a DM

Not everything revolves around Wirtz or needs to Ekitike’s second Kerkez ignored him and released Hugo

I didn't list anyone, there's still plenty of modern day ball winners out there but overall do more, too.

Do you think i'm that stupid to think Alonso was a destroyer? that list was our old midfield... Gerrard played more forward them 2 holding, Mascherano the bulldog, alonso the passer- what a midfield.

But yeah I don't know the best way going forward though, but wirtz is going to be crucial... and obviously further up is his best place, so we'll have to figure something out.
Wirtz has finally bern delivering what was expected of him through being a bit deeper and having 3 or 4 ahead of him occupying defenders he can play off

It wasn’t working with him further forward and with one forward less we constantly weren’t creating or scoring enough

You listed Rice and Rodri neither are destroyers

The game has changed a lot in recent years almost all teams press and pick up a lot of them man for man so there isn’t a reliance on a ball winning midfielder they all do it

Gravenberch has been doing as well as anyone our issue isn’t lacking players who can do all those things it’s getting the balance of players attacking looking to be in space and picking up right

Our midfielders rotate all the time in the modern game where the entire team defend

Grav Macca Wirtz or Szobo can be the furthest forward where does that leave your No6 how many of those old school No6 tackles have you seen lately from any team?

Wirtz has been delivering for months. You just couldn’t see it. But I’m glad you’re now a believer. Don’t suppose you could have a chat with your mates? They’re still in the dark ages.

              They aren’t destroyers

It’s all about picking up and knowing where they need to be positionally in the game now rather than diving into tackles

              • We already have three very good midfielders, they just have to sit a little bit deeper.

He really hasn’t it was killing us all the short needless passing trying to make everything go through him

It’s only now we’ve stopped that for 2 and a half out if the last four games it works, what we saw for 60 minutes yesterday isn’t how Slot was trying to play when everyone said we were shit to watch, dull, one paced, predictable

Agreed just pick up and play positionally responsibly throughout

                    • What we are seeing from Wirtz now is hugely different from the first 20 games, you just couldn’t see it as you don’t know the game.
Caused us no end of trouble, between him giving the ball away constantly and having zero recovery skills and Mo Salah playing with his boots tied together, it’s little wonder we were conceding goals for fun.

                          Correct

Hie admitted as much himself in his recent interview

                          • Maybe you could post the interview where he said he was overpriced and would never make it here?

                            • A great example would be Ekitike’s second goal Wirtz was in the hand space left and Kerkez ignored him and played it straight to Hugo

That’s wouldn’t have happened in too many games and actually wasn’t happening in yesterday’s game the way Slot set out to have us play

There’s always the risk with Slot he’s going to try and revert to that ridiculous short passing only overplaying set up that was clearly his plan in the summer and has failed miserably

He started with it AGAIN yesterday despite it being clear we play much better how the players took it on themselves to

True but we'd be a better side with an out and out DM I think. You see in yesterday's game how effective Grav can be when he's going forward with the ball.
Wharton in our side would be quality. Baleba looked good last season but seems to have fell out of favour this one.
