Knowing we would be playing a big physical side in Palace, who even the first team struggle with, playing a load of little kids was unacceptable to me. We may as well have forfeited the game and saved everyone the time and money of filling the ground.

Whilst I am not optimistic about our chances against Emery's Villa side given our current malaise, it is worth pointing out that if we DO win, we will be 3 points off second spot after 10 games played.

Which would be "about right" in a transitional season.

Slot won the League with a slightly tweaked version of Klopp-ball. Now we are in the early stages of Slot-ball with a new look side.

We're getting something resembling the season we expected 24/25 to look like, prior to what played out. We spent very little and a lot of lads said "mid-table" or "we'll do well to get Champion's League football" etc.

Turning the current slump around is a BIG job, no mistake - but just 5 League games ago we were 5 points clear, so I'm inclined to give the Manager a bit of time to see if we can't look something closer to a reasonable team within 5-10 games.

The lads bought in the Summer were bought for 4-5 seasons, not just this one. Obviously we can't be patient for the sake of patience if Slot continues to lose match after match after match, but I think sack talk is a tad premature just yet.

Except the key players we have brought in for "Slot ball" don't look like they will work in the hurly burly of the Premiership. It would have been a great side in Holland or even Germany, but not here. Frimpong is skillful, but small and injury prone, Wirtz looks great in training, but lost with the in-match speed and physicality (which I suppose he might adapt to eventually). I don't know what to say about Kerkez. He looked OK at Bournemouth and in Preseason, but now? Isak should work and Hugo certainly does, but with a midfield that gets run off the ball every 10 seconds, what chances are they going to get
