  • Trent leaving has not made us concede so many more goals this season. It’s been an absolute defensive shit show. -8 or -9 is it on set pieces?
Losing 3 consecutive games by 3 goals, two of them at Anfield to bang average teams but yeah, it’s because Trent left.

    Grief.

    • I read somewhere that Slot doesn’t place great importance on set pieces and it seems to ring true in the evidence

      Get De Zerbi in

Or give Slot an ultimatum to return to the 433 we won the league with and accept his vision was a non runner from the start

The question is "is slot getting the best out of the players"for me the answer is no.
Yes. I agree. The players are not that bad. Our squad is weaker but the first team is not that bad. Even with the deficiencies such as a DM and a better CB for Konate, we should still be able to beat/compete with the teams that have beaten us this season, also bearing in mind that we struggled to beat several others by the skin of our teeth.

Games that we should have been winning/drawing respectively as defending champions with the players we have:

27 September 20256 Crystal Palace 2–1 Liverpool Selhurst
          4 October 20257 Chelsea 2–1 Liverpool Fulham
19 October 20258 Liverpool 1–2 Manchester United Liverpool
          25 October 20259 Brentford 3–2 Liverpool Brentford
22 November 202512 Liverpool 0–3 Nottingham Forest Liverpool
6 December 202515 Leeds United 3–3 Liverpool Leeds
1 January 202619 Liverpool 0–0 Leeds United Liverpool
          4 January 202620 Fulham 2–2 Liverpool Fulham

Losing to a poor United team, to Brentford, to Forest at home (3-0!!!), 2 poor draws with Leeds etc. etc.

Even given the slightly better run we've been on lately, we've still been largely atrocious.

Why I want him gone is he is being pigheaded insisting his fantasy will work when it’s very apparent it won’t

He’s had ample opportunity to revert to what does work albeit without Diaz

Yes I do agree that if we brought in guehi, semenyo and someone else we would possibly strengthen where we need , but it can’t be overlooked that slot can’t seem to get a tune out of some of the players. McAllister , wirtz , he just can’t seem to get it right , I also think he mentally can’t get them in a place to be heightened , when we used to play at anfield and the whistle went it was manic for 15 mins , they don’t do that for slot

                  • Because the context is so different (inheriting a winning side with an excellent squad) for Slot compared to previous Managers, it's a little hard to find comparative seasons to look at so we can assess goals/targets and meeting them.

I may make a mistake or two with the timeline here, so apologies if I am a season or two out, I think in 16/17 under Klopp we got 76 points, then we added Salah and expected better in 17/18, though we actually finish with 75 points - though Salah's immense season, the scintillating style of play and the (not so) small matter of reaching the Champion's League Final massively elevated the season overall, despite perhaps some mild disappointment at not becoming better (yet) in the League. We lost 3-1 to Real Madrid, but we could see we were going places, no question.

In 04/05 when Rafa comes in (inherited a side that had finished 30 points off the leaders) we could safely say we had a pretty underwhelming season in the League - think we had something like 14 losses and we missed out on the Champion's League spots, however we managed to have a wonderful season in Europe. You could argue that the Miracle of Istanbul and a second Final within 3 season (AC Milan again in 06/07) meant that expectations reached a high that Rafa was going to meet (debate for another time I guess) or that we were getting closer to going places, especially relative to some of what had come before in the 90s and some of Houllier's tenure - though 00/01 was a wonderful season.

Anyway - two seasons that were arguably underwhelming in the League, but are fondly remembered - in no small part down to European dreams, something of a specialist subject for us over the years.

With some folks being "Slot out" already (entitled to that opinion, though I myself am not there yet) I'd be fascinated to see what would happen this season, or how the season would be perceived after-the-fact, should we happen to go deep on an attempt to lift Big Ears again - or maybe even pull the feat off?

It would be unexpected, but stranger things have happened with worse squads. Would people accept the current brand of footie if it yielded a result like that and clamour for Slot to stay? Is it "Slot out" no-matter-what? Or is it "Slot in" provided we finish in the Champion's League spots, look competitive and start to play somewhat more entertaining football?

We were spoilt rotten under Klopp - is entertainment now nearly as big an expectation as trophy success?

                    • They are fair points. When you haven't won anything major in years - like Arsenal you don't care a hoot for style or nowt. You just want to win. We have been spoilt with Jurgen with success and with a style of play that captured the world and the charisma of a man rival fans even miss.

Course he is. Press, counter press, win the ball back, up the bum, NO EXCUSES.

why did he leave? could've won it last season himself, could've won it this season and the next surely, no?

but instead only 1 title, bit comical slot's already matched that init really?

Oh well, rather bored of repeating himself, but in a 100 years Slots title team will not be called Klopps team that's for sure he'll go down in history winning the same number of titles, unlucky.

Hindsight but klopp made his decision midway through his last season and even if he regreted it,wouldnt have back tracked.

                            • Klopp made the decision long before that sadly.. Before that season even started.

He mentioned that typically, in a pre-season, a manager is full of energy, planning for the next 5–10 years. But he said: "I realised that I cannot do the job again and again and again." This was him talking in early 2024 about the preceding summer of 2023.

Confident that we win the title in his last season had he not let the players and media know. It exhausted them mentally.. Day in day out talk about what would happen post Klopp. As the young team with completely new midfield were top of the league that Christmas within weeks all the talk vanished about them and shifted to the impending departure of the normal one.. The form fell off a cliff. injuries obviously were horrific but still I think we had a good chance of taking enough points to at least push City to the wire.

                              • Imagine building the team for the next manager to take the credit, and walk away with one league title.

                                Shame that....

Or he thought his team wouldn't win the next season perhaps..... what do you actually know? or any of us?

Not sure why you'd walk if you thought you had a very good chance winning the league, it's bullshit get fucking real.
