Bugbear of mine, the state of the Academy teams. There is just nothing coming through at all and the coaching is pretty abysmal.
Not only the first team that are conceding 3 goals a game.
After 10 and a half games this age group has conceded 35 goals. For context, the next worst defence is Stoke City who have conceded 33, after that there are a number of clubs on 21-25.
Today’s opponents Man Utd have conceded 7. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that by the end of this, the 11th game of the season that Liverpool U18’s will have conceded 30 goals more than Man Utd’s U18’s
And while it’s not all about results it’s about bringing players through they need good coaching at this level to get into good habits.
Utd’s second goal there were no fewer than 4 defenders in attendance of the lad who scored, FOUR, watching while the attacker held the ball for 10 seconds or so to set himself and not one challenge on him.
Hope no one is waiting for the Academy to save us… you’ll have a long wait.
