My opinion will change if he provides evidence that merits that change.Originally posted by justme View Postor will you change your opinion if he comes here insidious?
It will remain my initial opinion that hes not ready for us yet, or - for the sake of clarity - he isn't ready for our starting XI yet on a regular basis. Seeing him wear Red won't change that. The lad needs more development and whilst his ceiling is high, I don't think 67 appearances in the Belgian League are quite enough for us get (particularly) excited about. If he is arriving as 4th choice then fair enough - all for it as that's a different thing - but if he is arriving as a Konaté replacement to partner Van Dijk right away and play 25+ games per season or something then I think it's too early, ie "not ready".
Hopefully if he does come here he thrives right off the bat - who wouldn't want a new arrival for us playing well? Few things than a player exceeding expectations.
I've always appreciated player development more than "ready-made" but in an ideal World I'd really like to see him have a couple of years at a Brighton/Bournemouth first as I don't think he's there yet.Your hobbies are rollerblading and you're also a bit of a rat-hound? Steel Wool

Quite right. You form an opinion based upon the evidence before you, or at least you should.
If new evidence is provided you are (or at least should be) ready to change your opinion on said new evidence. You shouldn’t blindly stick to your original opinion, that would be ridiculous."I am the Normal One."

Be good to land this Ecuadorian lad - I know he’s young and playing in a weaker league - but we really need the cover/rotation or what we have seen in the last 8 games (I know) is likely to be as good as it gets for the remainder of the season.

Getting a CB should be a priority. If we are getting this lad great, but it probably means Guehi won't be coming here, which in my opinion is a monumental fuck up by the club.
But anyway, I don't see the signing of a single cb changing what we have seen lately in the way we play. We are too slow, safe and ponderous right now.

Don't think there'd be any chance of Guehi. Glasner would threaten to leave again like in the summer regardless of the offer.Originally posted by jr81 View PostHavent been here in a while. So jumping in without reading everything.

He's their best player alongside JPM and they're gonna lose both in the summer. The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

Glasner is leaving anyway so I don't think parish will worry too much about him.Originally posted by teesred View PostDon't think there'd be any chance of Guehi. Glasner would threaten to leave again like in the summer regardless of the offer.

Unfortunatly I think if we don't get guehi in January, we don't get him at all.

The thing is with going to Brighton or Bournemouth and he does well. the 35+million will end up being 80+million like we have seen on numerous occasions, If the club thinks hes good enough, we should go and get him now.Originally posted by Insidious View PostMy opinion will change if he provides evidence that merits that change.

I don't dispute that - I've spent years on here saying I tend to prefer development over ready-made and it's part of why I didn't mind us going for the top shelf signings in the FSG tenure.Originally posted by justme View PostThe thing is with going to Brighton or Bournemouth and he does well. the 35+million will end up being 80+million like we have seen on numerous occasions, If the club thinks hes good enough, we should go and get him now.
But yes, he'd cost considerably more if developed somewhere else. In the Klopp years with the system/side being balanced enough and effective enough that we largely accrued large points totals, we could probably "Weather" that development aspect. For us, midway through the season, I'm not sure a "potential" buy versus a "ready-made" by is what we need at centre-back.
Unless of course he's 4th-choice or whatever. That's the key bit - is he a Van Dijk partner or something for later?
Lastly, whilst I and many do trust the club's judgement on recruitment overall, this is the same club that felt that we should recruit Wirtz. Your posts in the Wirtz thread suggest you don't rate him and presumably would sell him if we could, so bear that in mind, relative to your trusting the club point.Your hobbies are rollerblading and you're also a bit of a rat-hound? Yes i think in the long run Wirzt will end up being our worst singing, I like the rest we have signed over the summer.
Kerkez looks more settled now. Ekitike has been the stand out player. And Frimpong showed something last night.
Obviously Isaak got injured so did Leonie. so time will tell on them two. But Isaak has done it in the league..
So i do back the club to make decisions, but they also have to accept they make errors as well. Going back to Wirzt. i can say all i want about him. and make my own mind up. But i still want him to come good if that means our team will reap the rewards. I just have my doubts.Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

I think a major part of the reason why some of our players are underperforming is as a result of who is managing them and how he is using and motivating them.
Decent managers get their players to largely perform at an acceptable level. Good managers get their players and teams to punch a bit above their weight. Great managers such as Klopp get good performances out of average players, great performances out of good players, and exceptional performances out of great players. Slot on the other hand is doing the exact opposite in that our players are playing one or two or maybe even three levels below what they are capable of.
Will we ever know this for sure? Only if another manager takes over from Slot and player performances improve significantly, or if some of our currently underperforming players go elsewhere and start playing as well as we hoped they would have done for us.Last edited by RedMagic; 2 January 2026, 07:35 PM.
