    • There’s that solid counter argument again.

      • On a side note, if Guehi is going to Man City on £300k a week it either points to Man City and Guehi knowing that the club are going to be given little to no meaningful punishment for their financial transgressions, or that Guehi has some kind of release cause in his contract.

          • When you compare Liverpool's activity to their main competitors, the contrast is stark. Since 2018, Manchester City and Arsenal have constantly refreshed their defensive lines:

Man City: Signed Dias, Ake, Akanji, Gvardiol.

Arsenal: Signed Saliba, Gabriel, White, Kiwior, Timber, Calafiori.

            Liverpool: Konaté.

            • How many league titles have each of those 3 teams won in that time?

              • There’s that solid counter argument - yet again.

Tell me... How many of them have spectacularly failed to mount a title defence..?

                • You need to win the title before you can mount a title defence Gooner Steve. So that rules Arsenal out

City have infinite money. The fact that we're competing with them at all is to be commended.

                  • Well City won 5- and 4 count them - 4 in a row poor jokestrap... to answer your daft question...as for Arsenal they haven't won a bean in living memory.. . But they were 43 points behind us in 2020 - and they finished 17 points ahead of us in 2023 - that's a 60 point swing dear mr Shill.. despite us having the best manager in the world. Perhaps part of the reason why they have been getting close and probably will break that cycle this season - has something to do with them NOT relying on 1 single senior CB since January 1st 2018..

                    • From the timeframe you chose, 2018, only City and Liverpool have won the league.

So what point are you trying to make about CBs?

                        • Heard that too about Guehi on 300k per week...We'd never pay that and rightly so!...joke really...City won't even get a tap on the wrist let alone serious punishment for the supposed 115....

                          • The time frame illustrates perfectly how the side that was 43 points behind us in 2020 has massively gained ground to finish 2 out of the last 3 seasons above us and sadly - likely to be 3 out of the last 4.

The fact that Arsenal haven’t won a bean doesn’t mask the reality at all. Arteta isn’t of the class of Klopp or Pep. Not easy to win your first title, BUT their points progression across the very same period as our points regression could be seen as a parallel to the senior Centre back situation at both clubs.

And anyone without an agenda can see that

                            • Another side issue with Guehi not joining us is that Konate and his agent might start playing silly buggers again in terms of his contract situation given our paucity of quality and quantity in the centre of our defence.

                              • Steveo what is your problem with going into the summer with just an untried 18 year old, coming back from a full season out in Leoni and into his last season 35 year old Virgil Van Dijk as our entire CB cover??

I don’t know how you could think anything is wrong with that …

You’d think we hadn’t invested in that position for ohhh … 8 years or so. Now come on, we’re not run by idiots are we
