Happy to buy Guehi for £35m when Bradley and Leoni were fit, now they’re out for the season we won’t spend £20m.

We have needed a 6 since Henderson left

No sign of us even looking.

We are falling behind City and Arsenal at quite a rate of nots right now.
Back to us, or should I say our owners being content with the team just about being good enough to make the CL places every season.

    • We could spend £50m on a CB this window and still get rid of Slot in the summer. Or spend nothing and keep him.

      The two things aren't linked.

It's certainly a theory that's doing the rounds but I don't see it making sense. Even if they are to dispose of Slot they'd surely have wanted an excellent CB who's 25 and got his prime years ahead. He fits FSGs model perfectly, 20m a snip but the 300k a week was never going to happen.

Its just bad luck that those cheating cunts needed a CB and they were buying him by hook or by crook. It's them allover frivolous spending and he'll likely be on the bench next season like most of the players they buy.

        • Fuck me ..the right moment

Arne Slot insists Liverpool will "wait for the right moment" to add to their squad as the head coach refused to rule out strengthening before the January transfer window closes.
Season-ending injuries to Giovanni Leoni and more recently Conor Bradley have led to some calls for the Reds to bolster their defensive ranks
But summer target Marc Guehi - who had a medical on deadline day before Crystal Palace pulled the plug on a £35m deal - is now heading to Manchester City for £20m

City have already signed Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, who was also linked with a move to the defending champions.

Instead, Liverpool's winter window activity so far has been at Academy level, where they have brought in Senegal youth international Mor Talla Ndiaye from Amitie in his homeland and are closing in on a deal for Austria, Ifeanyi Ndukwe.

Slot was typically coy when asked about bolstering his ranks this month but said he, sporting director Richard Hughes and others in charge of recruitment, are all on the same page about the potential to act.

"Are we less stretched in attack, then? I am a bit surprised people are talking like this," Slot said when asked about the prospect of a defensive arrival this month.

"You think we have more options in the front? I am surprised people are so focused on our last line.

"We don’t have an injury in our midfield so that is the line we don’t have them but I think I have said it in the press conference but I can say it one more time.
"Everyone is aligned, everyone knows what the challenges are, and we all agree but that is not to say there is no possibility for us to act because as you know this club has always waited for the right moment and never from a position of panic.

"We always do the right things at the right moment. The one who was here before me had some issues at the back as well in a certain season.

"If the right player arrives for multiple reasons no matter what the position in our team - it could be last line, midfield or attack - then we will act.
          "I am the Normal One."

          • Isn't that similar to what Klopp used to say? Why does everyone in England automatically want to run to the transfer market. Or words to that effect.

I completely agree, I don't know how our forward planning is so shocking, the club is not being run very well imo, some heads need to roll, and no, I don't mean slots.

The future is a bit scary imo with salah, vvd, allison, robbo coming to a end and possibly konate then we have players that are just filling the bench Endo,Chiesa etc for numbers and of course the 2 goalkeeper subs, and we already need so much.

It's like we've not learned anything from klopp years and burnout and how squad depth is key... it's a joke, it's got worse, and doesn't help the youth is fucking shite

              • Slot sounds more and more like a 'yes man' who knows he got lucky with the circumstances he found himself in. He is reluctant to rock the boat because he knows he's never again going to get a position as big as the one he currently occupies.

                • Absolutely Kev, what makes it even more annoying is that we have been here before with Centre Backs and it cost us dear.

And here we are again, obviously having learned absolutely nothing

Yep and having to count on 34 year old VVD and Konate.... whos future is up in the air...

It'll be same as this summer, too little to late... and look what happens, we've had years to plan for the future.. why do we always leave it until last minute ? why do we put ourselves in these situations?

It's not good enough, and you can't say that's a well run club, it's a farce.

If we'd bought 2 CBs in the summer would you have been happy?

Leoni and a proven CB would've been enough, because if konate goes at least it's not panic stations (again) if konate ends up staying, I wouldn't cry if gomez left we need to look to the future mate, VVD is not the same player anymore, still a beast but he's not going to be around forever, same with the rest of them.

There you go. That's exactly what the club tried to do.

It's not a lack of planning. Or a poorly run club. It's just football.

You literally said 30 minutes ago other CBS out there.... so no, not good enough i'm afraid, should've moved on and stopped getting fucked around

we've had years to plan for the eventual exits of the old boys, yet we're going to be in a situation we already need players as it is... that's before we think about a future without Robbo,VVD,Salah etc.

Sadly it'll be here sooner than you think, it's already starting imo.

                            Not great really is it

You can't blame the club for Palace pulling the plug on deadline day?

So yes now we have to look elsewhere. It might not be this window but who knows.
