No, no and no again
1.I have stated the facts born out by the net spend. Anyone can look at it. He was measurably backed less than 6 other clubs in the league. Yet took 97 - 99 - 92 points and made 3 European Cup finals. And left a squad capable of winning a league cup & taking 82 and then 84 points after replacing his entire midfield in one summer.
2.The fact that despite this handicap Jurgen won titles and Slot has won a title (with Klopp's team) has no bearing on whether Klopp was backed well enough. IF Klopp gets backed properly - as for instance Slot has this summer -I think we all know - he wins at least 2 more titles. THIS is the point.
Leicester City won a title in a low points scoring season too - it happens.
YOu're right about one thing... I am pinning after Klopp, but that's because the man lifted us way above.. As for getting behind the current manager - I am fully... I have not once asked for him to be sacked. I've credited him for everything I believe he is worthy of credit for and I hope he manages to turn things around, because that will mean we are on the right path.

I don't believe you can build a title winning squad without the right backing from the owners.
The thing that sets Klopp apart from the others, for me, is his ability to spot and buy quality players. It doesn't matter the cost, he found the right players for his system who were good enough.
Being charismatic and a great leader is all well and good but if you can't spot the right players you'll do nothing in football. So I think he got the backing he wanted/needed and his talent did the rest.
We'll see if Slot has a similar ability or needs to go about things a different way.

YOU can - because some seasons a top 4 points tally can win you the title.. but agree probably can't get a side close to 99 points without it - this is the point I have been making for YEARS!
He was backed ONCE.. Virgil and Alisson and Fabinho all came in - but he had to sell his best player to do it. Sell to buy. And we went out and bought arguably 2 of the very best in the world in their positions. Both positions crucial to EVERYTHING WE HAVE WON SINCE>
EVERYTHING..
and only 1 senior (France u21) Cb since January 2018.... Boom and Bust.. This summer was a radical departure.. but one thing (person) isn't in place as it was..

He reverted to 4231 second half with the subs. We lined up:Originally posted by Ravo19 View PostThat was a lot better, shape, formation, passing, pressing, aggression where all back, might be called 4 4 2 diamond but it was the 3 man midfield that the players looked happier playing.
Ekitikie & isak maybe need time to form a partnership or might suit gapko further up as one of the 2 attackers.
One of the best performances on the night for me was slot,he had looked lost, out of his depth, clueless, broken a manager waiting for the axe to fall but last night he was in charge on the touchline not balling at the players but organising, instructing, encouriging,he was pulling the strings and the players where reacting, his substitutions where spot on.
Hands up last night he looked a top manager,i just hope the formation change wasnt forced on him and he doesnt revert back to 4 2 3 1.
Alisson
Bradley Konate VVD Robbo
Grav Jones
Sobozla MacA Wirtz
Ekitke
1st half shape was interesting, a diamond the easiest way to describe it on paper. Both strikers worked hard off the ball dropping wide & deep out of possession and allowing the team to defend 442 with a flat 4 in midfield.
Although briefly, the above shape/strategy 1st half did allow us to look as we did with cituae last year 4231 with Sobozla & Jones 10 & 9. Last night MacA & Jones assumed the 9 & 10 positions.
Think its fair to say Slot opted to have Sobozla & Jones deeper than MacA, whose had a big drop off from last season.
I'd have liked to see the below 3 off Ekitike after the subs but can understand Slot leaving MacA out of the pivot on form.

Hes an Arsenal fan living in Cobham. Nothing has to be true with SteveoOriginally posted by JockStrap View PostThanks for finally clarifying. If I strip out the noise I think the quote above captures the premise of your argument. That for the last 4 years (or more) of Klopp's tenure, he wasn't backed properly by the owners.
Unfortunately for you, one of these 2 things has to be true.
1) Klopp wasn't backed well enough by the owners. Therefore the squad wasn't good enough due to under funding. However, Slot took the same squad and won the league. Therefore, he was able to do something that Jurgen couldn't.
2) Klopp was backed well enough to build a title winning squad. He would have won the league had he stayed but it was Slot who took over the reigns and guided that squad to the league title.
Your issue is, you don't want either of those to be true. That's why you keep tying yourself up in knots when I ask you simple questions. You're trying to jump through hoops to make both of the above be false.
It's over chump. Stop pining for Klopp and get behind the current manager.
He also says Slotball emerged in March 2025, although having identified Slotball emerged in August 2024 himself.Steveo said:

There is some very good ‘next level’ football developing under Slot. Yes I know it’s only Pre season friendly etc… but still.
It is a different approach to Klopp’s. Not massively but it is different - dare I say it, a more compete form of the game. It would be magic if we could become adept enough at it to mount a title challenge with this style. Not expecting that at all this season.
But the early signs are very encouraging.
He stands over both statements
In September 2024 FSG were to blame for the squad that made Klopp walk early.
Once Slot won the league many months later, it was Jurgen Klopps squad, that made Klopp walk early...
On net spend, I've analysed the figures objectively, and when given the top 12 players signed by both Klopp and Arteta, Steveo went silent.
The very basis for his Arteta overtook Klopp claim. These additions.
Comparing the top 12 most expensive signings over their shared era, it is.....
Rice
Havertz
White
Jesus
Partey
Cauliflower
Timber
Ooodegard
Zinchenko
Viera
Merino
Raya
Versus
Nunez
Sobozla
Jota
Gakpo
MacA
Konate
Grav
Thiago
Endo
Tsimi
Carvalho
Minamino
At this point, you might want to wax lyrically about Artetas 12 lads, it might help in making your case. I've analysed the figures and listed 12 players that account for 90% of his spend and given the 12 Klopp signed players to match.
It could make for interesting discussion.
I genuinely don't see much support for your position

After 34 games last year we had as many points as cituae over their last 4 title winning seasons.Originally posted by Nineteenx View PostOn his question Klopp would have won it in 3 of 4 of those seasons with last seasons points tally
Slot and Klopp both amassed 86 points with that group of players in the past 2 seasons only difference is City and Arsenal both had poor seasons last time out
Our drop off at the end of the season was down to our lads celebrating number 20.

The malaise set in after the league cup final, well before the league was wrapped up. Had Arsenal put us under any real pressure then, I'm positive we would have crumbled and blown it.Originally posted by CCTV View PostAfter 34 games last year we had as many points as cituae over their last 4 title winning seasons.

Fortunately for us Arsenal shit out yet again and didn't have the stones for a challenge. Not our problem, You can only look after your own business and we did that perfectly.Originally posted by pob View PostThe malaise set in after the league cup final, well before the league was wrapped up. We played 5 games after the cup final loss, won 4 & lost 1.Originally posted by pob View PostThe malaise set in after the league cup final, well before the league was wrapped up. Had Arsenal put us under any real pressure then, I'm positive we would have crumbled and blown it.
12 points from 15
2.4 points per game.
After 34 games we had 82 points.
2.41 points per game.
Had we kept on a 2.4 points per game rate over the last 4 PL games,
We'd have wracked up 91 to 92 points.
In the last 4 games we got 2 points. Not 9 or 10
0.5 points per game.
Thats 19 points over a season.
For me, its quite clear the title winning form continued throughout the season,
And only collapsed over those last 4 games as the historic number 20 was celebrated.
It was a season that started with a squad that some suggested caused Klopp to walk early...
We were top of the league, but we hadnt played anyone....
(in the toughest league in the world..)
Then we played more teams, but there was no teams to play....
(in the toughest league in the world..)
Winning number 20 & stopping cituae to their 5th in a row PL title - roundly dubbed a poor title win by many, maybe, the worst by some
Then it was the injury crisis for Arsenal with a credible 2nd place finish, our points gap to Arsenal developed before their "injury crisis" and they managed as much points per game before and after their injury crisis. The title winning gap predated their "injury crisis"
Finally its the low points total, and suggestions this was because the squad wasnt too good...
10 points clear of Arsenal & 13 clear of cituae.
Had the gap been any bigger, I'm sure it would have made our winning Number 20 even worse somehow, for some, and likely those who felt the 10 point gap wasn't big enough.
Considering Jota died.... I'm delighted we won it early and got to take it in before the end of the season, lapping it up, number 20, before the trophy day, before the parade featuring terrror/mentalhealth incident, and before Jota died shortly after the season ended.

This. All day long.Originally posted by teesred View PostYou can only look after your own business and we did that perfectly.
Had Klopp been in charge last season and won the league there wouldn't have been a single word about how Arsenal bottled it. Nor the number of points needed. Nor anything else.Last edited by JockStrap; 12 December 2025, 08:54 AM.
