Fans have a weird view of the world where they think every young player is the next Stevie G or Robbie Fowler in waiting. How many young players have we let go over the years? And out of those how many do you look back on as a massive mistake.
Yes, it is a shame there is a lot of wastage in this industry. High stakes I guess.

I'm not sure when the next Stevie G will come along, or the next Curtis Jones for that matter.

I'm probably in a minority but I'd prefer us, as a club, to develop young players rather than just lazily leaving it up to Brighton, Southampton or Palace to do it for us.

That's it really. We'd all like to see more youth players coming through but it's infinitely more difficult to break through at the top clubs. They can choose from anyone on the planet.

It's always going to be easier to come through the ranks at the teams you mention. Simply because there is no expectation of winning trophies every season. Young players can be given a chance and if they prove good enough the big clubs come knocking. Even then I'd wager the vast majority of young players at Brighton, Southampton or Palace are discarded.

I don't know of any solution other than strict wage or spending caps which have never been implemented.

      • As Arne says in the roundtable, once everyone is fit we are a force to be reckoned with. He's absolutely right. It's just a shame we've had so many crucial injuries to deal with this season. That has disrupted us badly.

But what's the point, he'll leave again soon as something else comes up and he can try be a manager again etc

Yes. By all accounts he was a good support to Slot. And the lads liked him.

                                He's not far wrong.
That result may have saved Arne's bacon.
The football from us was dire, mind.
