Yes, he had already proven he could do a new country and different league before we signed him.

Not like moving from any country to the Prem not a huge step up from France to Germany

Wirtz’s issues were cause by Slot anyway

My takes are Ekitike and Wirtz are both better when we have 3 up and Wirtz joining in the wide forwards occupy defenders and are there to play off

We have to look to release Teacake in behind more with that ball from left back, both Robbo and Kerkez have now

When we play it long to him we need a player supporting that to win or pick up any second ball because Teacake wins it or makes the defender unable to clear effectively a lot of the time We pick that ball up and it will be on to immediately release Teacake bond the CB who just contested the header with him a lot of the time

Not his day today against City. Had a couple of decent chances but couldn't convert.

He had a few chances to play in team mates too but chose the wrong option.

Certainly not a good day at the office.

True. And still not far away from 2 goals.

He's been our only real attacking threat this season. City marshalled him well. Effectively let Cody be Cody and Mo his more recent lacklustre self. Wirtz was totally outclassed by Silva today... I mean understandable at his age.. but still.. That's the level.. it aint easy.. and Florian is about as close as a Tueton may get but he has a loooong way to go to make that bracket. And Bernardo aint event eh best Silva City's had in recent years.

                    This thread isn’t about Wirtz.

Hugo could and should have had 2 today.

Yes he should he’s a great signing but talk of how good he is is very premature

I regularly get clips pop up on FB and other platforms of the Mane Bobby Salah show Diaz too, Suarez Torres he’s just not consistent enough yet he HAS to score on of those two

Clips come up where any of those players is scoring better goals than we’ve seen from him or we’re seeing in the Prem this season Szobo’s free kicks aside

His 2 goals v Newcastle flipped a game we were in real danger of losing badly. Today he had a couple of decent chances - the header from Mo’s exquisite pass (which almost nobody remembers ) was one he should score.

BUT if we can’t mention other players who are intrinsically linked to Hugo - in Wirtz’s case - as he plays often in tandem with Hugo…. in a thread about Hugo - then we’re getting a little anal.

Wirtz had a quiet game and Hugo wasn’t at his best. I suggest that in their first season there is a link between the two. Of late when Hugo has been at his best Wirtz has been bang on it.

I remember Mo's pass because it's the only thing he did all game. And yes Hugo should have scored from it.

Premature to be rating him as he has been needs to show consistency and put away more of his chances Mane Mo Bobby and Jota didn’t miss many in the positions he has

Not as bad as Nunez for that but half as bad he missed 2 massive chances v City
