  • Lessons from the legends for Slot

A few quotes from Bill and Bob here that every successful Liverpool manager has followed, that Jurgen embraced and followed and Slot needs to learn

“My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Had Napoleon had that idea he would have conquered the bloody world. I wanted Liverpool to be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up until eventually everyone would have to submit and give in.

“Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor.”

The players “For a player to be good enough to play for Liverpool, he must be prepared to run through a brick wall for me then come out fighting the other side.”

“A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and make sure you are.”

”“A football team is like a piano. You need eight men to carry it and three who can play the damn thing.”

FSG “At a football club, there’s a holy trinity – the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques”

On the Derby “Sickness would not have kept me away from this one. If I’d been dead, I would have had them bring the casket to the ground, prop it up in the stands and cut a hole in the lid.”

"It's not about the long ball or the short ball, it's about the
    right ball."1’

Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.

If it ain’t broken don’t fix it

Gakpo Mo Ekitike “If you’re in the penalty area and aren’t quite sure what to do with the ball, stick it in the net and we’ll discuss your options afterwards!

“No football club is ever successful without hard work. If everyone thinks along these lines and does the small jobs to the best of their ability, then the world will be better.”

”“If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be.”

“One of the things I keep reminding players is that when you’re lost in a fog, you must stick together. Then you don’t get

FSG “We have a marvellous backroom team at Anfield who share the workload wonderfully well. No club has a more able and closely-knit staff than ours.

    Youth development a d recruitment

“A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and then make sure that you are. In my time at Anfield we always said we had the best two teams on Merseyside, Liverpool and Liverpool reserves.

“It’s the greatest thing in the world, natural enthusiasm. You’re nothing without it.”

    And my own

Implied external pressure should never worry you, the greatest pressure to play well and succeed and to work to continuously develop and improve should come from you and you should push all your team mates to find the same and each push each other harder

I have to say this is important, and yet sadly it appears Real Madrid might have to sell us back some of our players who've not worked out, to finance the purchase/wages of more LFC players.

Trent, Konate, MacA & Sobozla all potentially going to Real now.

Captain, vice-captain & goalscoring legend, all running down their contracts last year, saying no offers from the club, and as per Fowler, Mo & VVD contract extensions were agreed and kept hush to protect Trent, willfully throwing LFC under the bus to protect a local lad who wants to fuck off to real.

Can we afford to drop any of these madristas playing in a Red shirt ?
I would, but then I'd probably be sacked for doing so...

Needs to renew all their contracts

Jurgen left us with absolute quality in Konate Macca Grav & Szobo it would be absolutely criminal to lose any of them

I’d take Trent on a season long loan if they’ve gone off him too

They play out of their skins for us when wearing the shirt

                      While they are our players

The transfers weren’t international and most players were English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish back then

Dom could become a liverpool legend & future captain or...sit on Madrids bench. That's his choice but I hope he chooses the former. Madrid are a shithouse club on the level of man city. Dom needs to look at how its turning out for trent but these players seem to think they are the next galacticos

Dom is not a prisoner, he can do as he wishes. I believe he loves Liverpool but time will tell.

                          On the shithouse clubs…

Worth remembering - he had a great point:

"Financial Fair Play is a fraud of a term... It’s built to make sure that clubs which do not drive significant revenues cannot catch up." — John Textor, Crystal Palace co-owner.

All clubs are shytehouse clubs IF they can get away with it.

I took a few close ups of the Shankly Statute outside the Kop.. He would terrify F$G

Where to start with that rambling mess? From Dom to FFP to Shankly to FSG. All in a few lines.

It's quite a nice strawman you built there. Nobody claimed Dom is a prisoner. He is however contracted to play for LFC if you want to view it purely as a transactional relationship. Even in a transactional sense it's disrespectful to be working for one club and publicly "dreaming" of another.

Speaking of Shankly, I wonder what he'd make of LFC players publicly proclaiming their love of Madrid?

Wow you are proving to be quite the idiot aren't you.

No player, wishing to remain...would dare speak like that with Shankly OR Klopp around.. The very fact it's occurring the proof of what so many connected to the club are so deeply concerned about. The erosion of the holy trinity NOW effectively destroyed by the Head coach setup.

Here’s an LFC legend, one a few were hoping to be moved on in January... and he’s still playing for us.

I took this on the walk up Anfield Road to the ground. Something told me he was going to have to a good game.

That second goal. Watch it again and again. Mo Salah might have lost some pace and at times the drive - but that cushioned ball for Dom. Made it a relatively simple finish in truth. High ball from Cody to Mo with defender covering - very few players make anything of that. Mo - tricks them all with pretend control …and plays the most delicious cushioned ball onto the deck for a finish most pros have to make. . Superb goal but one superfine ingredient makes it.
