The USA is a relatively new country without much of its own history.
160 years ago they had a bloody civil war. 150 years ago came the bloody Indian wars to be followed by the wild west. 100 years ago came the mobsters.
Never mind the international wars they have been involved in.
That history is still glorified in past and modern films to this day.

You are right about the knives. My friend is in the MET in Landan, and he says that almost everyone that is arrested in the 16-30 age bracket has a knife. The main difference though in this country is that we don't have 50% of the population lobbying to keep knives on the streets.
