I don't know about anyone else, but from the games I saw him in prior to our signing him, it was pretty clear he could offer a real threat released 1v1 against or in behind full backs on either side and from crosses and balls in he had released the player to be able to put in, and read it and followed it up getting in the box through having started the move
So it seemed pretty clear to me what work needed doing and coordinated with him and other players, quite a lot of work to be fair
Nunez being far stronger and dropping to win the ball ahead of opposition mids or CBs and quickly lay it off to then turn and be making a run, enabling the player he'd laid the ball off to, to release the player who would put it in rather than Nunez doing it himself - Guardiola managed to work on getting Haaland doing this very well quite quickly, we didn't seem to make any progress on it at all
He needs educating on his movement and getting himself set being able to win aerial duels ahead of defenders outside of the box to keep us in possession and when doing enough to stop them making an effective clearance and immediately be looking to make a run for when we pick up the second ball too, he's not nearly good enough at any of those things to play as a No9 in the Prem
On releasing him in behind or one v one with opposition full backs, working on that required a lot of coordinated movement, but doing that work will absolutely reap dividends long term, it needs Nunez to always be looking for triggers for him to make inside out runs to either side from central positions and it needs our full backs and/or LFWD and RFWD to make coordinated movement to draw the full back out, when coming short for the ball would actually work for a change
LFWD/RFWD comes short drawing the full back, Nunez starts runs, LFWD/RFWD gets ball to feet, lays it off backwards to midfielder or full back, to play a first tine ball through the channel or dropped over LFWD/RFWD and the full back they've occupied to release Nunez
Making Mane's trademark outside in runs off the full back and across or between CBs to meet crosses from right full back or RCM when starting on the left OR go far post to head the ball back across, Mane, Diaz and even Oxlade all grasped this, the latter 2 copying Mane because the opportunity to benefit from it was already a set part of our play
These are things I consider to be pretty basic things and things that I believed needed doing to get the best from Nunez before he'd kicked a ball for us, I haven't seen any evidence of any of them happening
