Really cannot see that at all
As gobsmacked as I would be if Valverde occured (and for the record I don't think he will) the idea of 5 years of £15.4m instalments (if Real would agree to it) doesn't actually seem insanely far-fetched in the context of what we will need in the coming years.

Only one of our five "star" forwards is over-30 and we would have a number of midfielders under-25 as well. We'd need to replace Matip in time, maybe have understudy full-backs, keep looking for the eventual Van Dijk and Salah replacements of course - but we wouldn't need to do all of those things in one window (such as next Summer's) and could chip away at the other incomings as we go.

It's a move that would greatly surprise me and I don't see it happening, but there are ways.

    James Pearce

How the Dominik Szoboszlai deal was done and why Liverpool went for him rather than others on their shortlist.
Plus, a look at where LFC are likely to turn next in the transfer market.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is admired but LFC not currently pursuing a third new face in midfield. Including TAA, they have 9 options in that department.
Situation only likely to change if someone leaves. Also, feeling that Lavia massively overpriced at £50m.

So to sum up, last season we were short in midfield and we've since released 3 midfielders and bought 2 and suddenly we've got too many midfielders because Trent.

Releasing Ox and Keita is like releasing 66% of a mid to be fair - also Bajcetic, Jones and Trent weren't used much in midfield for much of the season if memory serves (got more time in the last 11-19 games) whereas me might use them more often over the course of a full season.

I also think we may yet conduct some business, even if it isn't Lavia - who is something like 9 months older than Bajcetic and has only played 17-19 more Premier League games, so probably IS overpriced at £50m in fairness.

    Aye. Fucks sake.
So if no sales are happening the squad rebuild is complete. 95m and two players. Sound. Bolstering the squad with youngsters again ( which isn't a bad thing) but we still require more quality. Surely a CB will be brought in.....

FSG, just fuck off asap will you.
Neil Jones briefed fans that we had lost interest in Szoboszlai.

We bid for him the next day.

Just wait. Maybe no more business happens and we end up bemoaning the lack of business. Or maybe we are putting it out there that we are "done" as a tactic in negotiating something for our next player, rather than doing the Man United strategy of "hey everyone we have money, can we please buy your players for £30m over value?" - the window isn't done yet and thus cannot be judged positively or negatively just as we are.

Don't remember Jones saying that. As far as I read he knew nothing about it until we made a bid.
I don't see the business being completed at all, it's an absolute joke if so.
I've edited my post now Sid. I'm in a mood cos ive lost my fuckin passport. Taking it out on FSG.

Yeah Ox and Keita won't really be missed, but Hendo and Thiago are getting old and unless we sign a new medical team we'd be well advised to sign another midfielder.

Is the Thuram deal really dead in the water or will we go back?

Agree £50m for Lavia is too expensive.

It was something to the effect of "Newcastle is more likely" etc - it's all a bloody blur at this time of year.

You wouldn't be the first to take their mood out on an external source, never worry. In Northern Ireland I always find it funny that a Loyalist could trip and fall over their shoelaces and blame Sinn Fein.
