It's a long time since I've felt so fucking depressed about the state of LFC
The £40m for Fabinho who looks physically pretty spent for his age (massive number of career minutes) IS hard to turn down. Getting a 33-year old off the books who wanted out is also not to be dismissed.

The wider context is what is eating people - the lack of incomings to offset outgoings. If we had bought 4-5 midfielders so far this Summer instead of two and Fabinho was linked with leaving at £40m then almost everyone would be delighted with the continued renewal of the squad.

Genuinely very sympathetic to those concerned about letting things drift into August and the "what if?" of further signings not occuring, but take a moment to look at the age of some of our squad - 4 of 5 of our attackers under 30, midfield all under 30 besides Thiago. I assure you if a good transfer or two happens before the window ends your spirits will lift somewhat.

Advanced talks between ourselves and Leeds for the services of Nat Phillips.

Journalists don't even seem bothered to make any lazy links for a player plus cash deal for Tyler Adams.

It's not just about the "now" though. The whole business model is ensuring that we are falling behind, they got away with it due to Klopp and investing big in one post season.
That needs to happen again, there's no way that squad challenges again with the players we are buying or are linked with.
They're hanging onto an asset that they're essentially running down by neglect.

Are they intending to lose money?
Crazy if they carry on like this, they will lose millions.

I don't think there's a "lose" element for them right now. Buying something for 300m that's now valued at over 3bn is a major win for them.
They're content to skim the cream off the top like Arsenals owners were for years.
Biggest problem is if you have a couple of seasons out of the CL that then turn into a few seasons. That cream starts to taste sour.

: The Khephren Thuram deal fell through because Liverpool viewed the transfer as too expensive. The price tag and the player’s wages.

Tonight Fabrizio is saying that in a way we shouldn't worry because behind the scenes there is a lot of work going on to get deals done. He thinks the Lavia deal is still on and that we will go with another bid very soon. He thinks the Andre deal is very unlikely because the transfer period in Brazil is now closed and therefore they can't replace him if he goes. He thinks a lot of clubs might be in for him in January.
