I still keep going back to the 100 million for Caicedo.. we were apparently willing to pay out over an 100 million. where did that money go?? i know we signed Endo for about 15 million. but we will more than likely get money back on him..
we have signed 1 player in 2 transfer windows and its going on for 3 now and that was Chiesa
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
That offer was never was never one that was made with actual serious intent to acquire an expensive, much sought after player. Supposedly a nine figure offer was made by 'us', but that offer and any like it is meaningless if those making the offer know that it is never going to be accepted by either the player or the club that player is currently at.
Some may ask why someone would do this. The reason is that it will convince a lot of fans that this offer was a serious one, and as such it also convinces these fans that the owners of a club making such an offer is serious about making big signings and splashing the cash when necessary.
All the available evidence such as not spending this supposed Caicedo money despite desperately needing to address certain problem areas and needing to beef up the squad suggests that the above reasoning is correct and that the never serious Caicedo offer was nothing more than a way of hoodwinking a lot of fans into thinking out owners are better than they actually are.
As opposed to spunking £75m on Nunez, just for a laugh...
We've supposedly turned down £70m for Darwin
The thing is the £100m+ offer for Caicedo was as far as I know actually submitted, but it was well known that Caicedo was dead set on joining Chelsea. A part of the submitted offer was also if you'll excuse the pun done as part of a semi pissing competition and game of bluff or chicken between FSG, Henry and Todd Boehly.
Nobody knows the details of any new contract that may have been offered to TAA. If they've offered him a contract that they know he'll never sign simply to try and absolve them of any blame if he leaves, I have to say that I don't like that particular kind of thing or those that engage is such duplicitous behaviour.
In terms of what kind of contract I think TAA is worth, I'm not sure myself, especially because I think we could we be close to being in a lose - lose situation in that if he signs a massive new contract it will almost certainly impact on our owners willingness to buy any new players and pay other players big money, and if he leaves I don't see any money saved being put towards acquiring new players, as should have been the case with the supposed Caicedo money.
I'm also not as big a TAA fan as some, especially given that for a while from my perspective he seems to be giving off a certain 'Billy Big Balls' vibe that I don't like, never mind that when he's not providing assists and goals I actually think he's more of a liability than an asset.
