Sweet lord - it's probably where many draw the line.. "chipping away" "recruitment" "Always chase marginal gains - always"

Fook me Sid you sure know how to reduce the sport to venture capital jargon.

Imagine a stadium full to the rafters of people determined to "plug away at it". Singing about wise re-investment...
    Because it's contextually relevant.

Football is business these days. You and I and Reds everywhere can absolutely despise loads of aspects around that, but the game is where it is now.

We're talking about transfers and those transfers currently exist under owners that we know to have a particular ownership model. Within that context, I'll speak a certain way.

Equally, if watching a match, I'm a completely different animal - raised voice, joy, frustration, jubilant moments, "what the fuck was that pass" / "behind you!" / "he absolutely fucking twatted that" etc etc

I'm self-employed, have been to therapy, am involved in conservation work and subscribe to lots of ideas like Kaizen - you will hear me say things like "marginal gains" or "critical non-essentials" a Hell of a lot because they apply to a lot of my everyday life and thus have crept into my vernacular over an extended period of time. If landlords and venture capitalists happen to speak that way as well, so what? If you jump to the conclusion that certain words and phrases being strewn throughout my vocabulary somehow impact my love of the game or the feelings I have for it then that's up to you.

    *Shrug*

Can't say I know any landlords, so can't speak from experience there.

    No.

We signed 2 players last summer. No one this window and no one last January.
If you want to discount Giorgi cause he's on loan, that wouldn't be outrageous. He is slots record signing.

We have signed 2 DMs since Caicedo moved to cfc and we nearly had Zubimendi done in the summer.
This signing 2 players, nearly 3 DMs is where I'd suggest the Caicedo money went and with Zubimendi was going.

Yea - you know - somehow I still don’t see the point. Yes football clubs have become much more like ‘businesses’ - Certainly the Yank owners have really made them essentially no more than that - it’s an accepted label but one which is actually well wide of the mark. They are actually institutions in fact. They belong to the community - or at least they should.

And IF they are run like businesses ok - but it seems like that is where the bulk of your interest lies. It seems your primary concern is how much we can eek out financially - how well we can re invest - how little we expose ourselves to risk - rather than how we can manage to get the best players into the club to move the Kop and take the club to the next level.

We obviously need a new LB. Fulham's highly rated LB Antonee Robinson provided another couple of assists in tonight's game against West Ham. Having not seen the game myself I cannot say if he played any part in the three goals that Fulham conceded.

Wouldn't disagree with that. Who was the last reliable one? Suarez?

However, I think the defence would be my priority if signing anyone this January.. Defences win leagues, isn't that how the saying goes?

We've only conceded 20 in the League - same as Forest and only two more than Arsenal.

I'm definitely curious as to how we might fare if Tsimikas and Bradley were used as the full-backs more often. At the moment Robbo looks "off it" and even an upgrade there in individual matches could make a difference.

If we don't acquire a left-back this January then I'd probably happily see how we do with Tsimikas there - and indeed from a rotation/options perspective would happily trial Bradley, Quansah or Endo there for at least two games to see if we can tighten up a bit.

More than transfer activity, I want to see a touch more rotation. Lads like Endo, Quansah, Morton, Elliott, Chiesa and Bradley have all played a pretty small number of minutes and the utilisation of them all, even if it's for 15-minute sub appearances more than starts, could absolutely ease a bit of pressure on certain players when it comes to the run-in.

Don't want to arrive in March or April within touching distance of the League leaders (or still maintaining our lead) and having a drop-off because lads like Gravenberch, Mac Allister or whoever else are cooked.
